History Lesson 101: St. John Richardson Liddell (September 6, 1815 – February 14, 1870) was a prominent Louisiana planter who served as a general in the Confederate States Army during the American Civil War. He was an outspoken proponent of Southern emancipation of slaves. Liddell was murdered by a former Confederate Officer near his home in 1870. Liddell was born to a wealthy plantation family near Woodville, MS. He was a schoolmate of future Confederate President, Jefferson Davis, whom he would interact with several times during the early years of the Civil War on behalf of fellow general Albert Sidney Johnston.
Liddell held a reputation for being outspoken, and was well connected. In December 1864, he wrote a letter to Edward Sparrow, a Confederate Senator from Louisiana and chairman of the military Committee, expressing his conviction that the war was going against the Confederacy. He expressed the need for full emancipation of the slaves in order to secure foreign assistance. Although he admitted it may have been too late to act, he felt that emancipation may have also been a solution to the South's growing manpower crisis. Senator Sparrow showed the letter to General Robert E. Lee, who agreed with Liddell on all points, stating that "he could make soldiers out of any human being that had arms and legs".
Liddell was assassinated in 1870 by Col. Charles Jones, the culmination of a twenty-year real estate dispute that had seen Jones and his band of thugs murder several friends and family members of Liddell. He was buried on his sprawling plantation in Louisiana. (Taken from Wikipedia)

Praise God that there are some who are not ashamed to stand for God and honor their Savior, Jesus Christ.
Mark 8:38: "For whoever is ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him will the Son of Man also be ashamed when he comes in the glory of his Father with the holy angels." Thank you students (and leaders), we need more like you. Happy to be found in Him.

Sheriff Joe Arpaio (in Arizona) is doing it RIGHT!! He has jail meals down to 40 cents a serving and charges the inmates for them. He stopped smoking and porno magazines in the jails. Took away their weights. Cut off all but "G" movies. He started chain gangs so the inmates could do free work on county and city projects. Then he started chain gangs for women so he wouldn't get sued for discrimination.
He took away cable TV until he found out there was a federal court order that required cable TV for jails. So he hooked up the cable TV again but only let in the Disney channel and the weather channel. When asked why the weather channel he replied, so they will know how hot it's gonna be while they are working on my chain gangs.
He cut off coffee since it has zero nutritional value. When the inmates complained, he told them.....this is a good one......"This isn't the Ritz/Carlton. If you don't like it, don't come back."

Siouxlady, I've lived in CP all my life and I've only heard of one who walked away. I've also worked some of these "so called" walk aways. These men usually are there for non-violent crimes and have the opportunity to serve their time while being able to get acclimated back into the work force, unlike many that walk the streets everyday looking for something to steal for their drug habits. Maybe you should take the time to check them out and see the real reason they want to get out and work. Sheriff Maxwell has done a great job of trying to help the Parish and help these inmates become a viable part of society. As someone else said, there is always a nay-sayer, one who's mouth kicks in before their brain. You're that one.

If they play up to the potential they have, it will be another National Champion team.

What's wrong with using your drivers license????? Almost everyone has one. Those who don't could get a simple ID from the MDOT for free. It's spelled f.r.e.e. What's wrong with that. If it cost money someone would be up in the air hollering "disenfranchisement" or some kinda crap like that. Sounds like somebody is just too lazy to get off the sorry butts and go get one. Use the drivers license. LA has been doing it for years. Works fine over there.
