It's great that we have the alternative to homeschool. Not everyone can afford private school. Unfortunately California recently outlawed homeschooling (Thanks Arnold). We better watch out or we'll be forced to send our kids to the substandard public schools too.

This shouldn't be about black or white. It's what one human did to another that is so reprehensible and cold-blooded ... and it should have been punished when it happened a long time ago.

Something that is sorely needed in Natchez!

"We’re emphasizing the basics" now if they could only do that in the classroom, maybe their ACT scores would improve! On other hand, if they could make learning as exciting as football, maybe there wouldn't be a problem in the first place.

Frozen veg retains vitamin content better than fresh which loses a lot between the time it is picked and when it is consumed at home. Whoever wrote this article makes a good poing, that eating healthy is expensive, but this has been true for long time. MS is a very poor state and also the fattest, yes I think there is a correlation here! I don't think the person who wrote this is very educated in healthy eating and food preparation.

I'm glad there was an improvement, but let's face it the scores are still pretty bad. The ACT is not that hard of a test, all you really need to score well is to be strong in basic math and english skills. It goes back to early elementary school. And I think Mrs. Carey is doing the public a disservice by not releasing Trinity's ACT scores. It's important for parents to know how these schools compare so they can make an informed decision on where to send their children. What does she have to hide?

It would be nice to actually find a decent paying nursing job in Natchez ... with good benefits ... I'd be willing to fluff a few pillows for that ... but I don't do nails !

domestic violence crime rates increase during hard times. It's frustration being acted out.

Adults (not just parents) need to model responsible behavior. It's okay to drink but it is not ok to get drunk and get behind the wheel of a car. Do not drink and drive. Just don't, it's not worth killing yourself or somebody else. But some people will keep doing it no matter what because they think they can handle it, and stupid people will keep letting them get away with it until somebody dies and then it is too bad. Parents need to take a stand against underage drinking. It is messed up when you are looked down on by your neighbors because you don't let your kids get drunk. But some parents think because they did it as kids it is ok. Four-wheelers are dangerous too, but parents around here still let their kids ride them. There is a lot of peer pressure for parents to let their kids do things which are "fun" but not necessarily safe. There are enough bad things that can happen to your kids even when you are careful, why would you want to invite disaster by letting your kids do things you KNOW aren't safe?

I applaud parents who home school. It takes a lot more effort than shoving your kids out the front door every morning. Public education makes parenting easy in comparision - you don't even have to see your kids for the majority of the day.
