Fatherof4, I can’t believe you are telling non-smokers where they should and shouldn’t go to eat.

Lighting a plant on fire and inhaling the smoke is the behavior of a very confused animal. The enjoyment of a normal, healthy person’s meal comes first. Smokers show blatant disregard for others when they smoke in a restaurant where people are eating and babies are sleeping. Smokers are the ones who should be relegated to an outside area.

The Republic of Ireland has banned smoking everywhere; even in bars where no food is served. The government provides health coverage for the bartenders. So, it is the Irish tax payers’ business that a healthy environment is offered for employees and customers alike.

My friend was a bartender in Hattiesburg, MS. Although he himself was a smoker, he quit eventually because all the second-hand smoke was ruining his health. Money talks… but good health doesn’t have to listen. Thankfully, restaurant owners do not have the autonomy you are wishing for them.

Krogers, you said “only taxpaying citizens with a high school diploma should be allowed to vote, my opinion.”

...I get the feeling you probably pay taxes and you probably have a high school diploma. Maybe you even have a fishing license. If so, then congratulations on all that. But those should not be requirements for voting in my opinion. I don’t have a high school diploma, but I do have a college degree (it’s a long story). I work abroad and I don’t have to pay taxes for three years. Every month I send half my salary home. While Bush is constantly sending millions and billions out of the United States, I’m sending dollars back into the U.S. economy. But anyway, I’m not sure who to vote for… tell me who you’ll vote for so I can choose the opposite.

Sammohon, in your first post, you played a game of twenty questions about problems in the building which concluded with a jab at Salmon. I can select that one point from your vapid rant and take issue with it if I like while ignoring your other emblaberations… it’s a free country. I think your ongoing disclaimers about your respect for Salmon are insincere and only reinforce the insult you started with. Personal insults come naturally to you obviously since now you’re questioning my intelligence and mocking my name. Since you lost the argument regarding Salmon, you’ve now resorted to what a logician would call the Ad Hominem. That’s Latin talk, you see, for “to the man.” In this case, you have used an Ad Hominem on an Advanced Hominid. This time, go to Juvenile Justice (do not pass Go; do not collect $200).

Sammohon, as you can see, my name is Advanced Hominid. So, I have invented many things (e.g. the wheel, stone tools, Velcro, etc.) but I did not invent the resentment toward Salmon and Moroney which hides pusillanimously in your text. There is simply no foundation to your argument that Salmon was inexperienced. Her years of close association with Moroney is a more than adequate prerequisite for designing anything Natchez wants to build. You tried to pick on Salmon and you got busted. Now go to jail (do not pass Go; do not collect $200).

Sammohon, I talked many times with Charles Moroney while the juvenile facility was being built. He was certainly involved with the design, although to many people it would have appeared otherwise. But beside from that, Amelia Salmon was already by then an accomplished architect. If some obstreperous juveniles were able to break the ceiling, that may have had more to do with the choice of building materials, and that would be dependent on how the construction was budgeted. Ultimately, the Natchez community placed more priority on an appropriate and pleasing design for downtown Natchez. That’s why they chose Salmon and Moroney for the job. Now, if you want something more like Guantanamo in downtown Natchez, the architects can provide that just as well. And if the juveniles respond that way in captivity, maybe a zoo would be a more natural environment for them.

Sammohon, having read one of your comments in the past, and judging from your comments above, I’m guessing you are an architect or somehow involved in the construction business. I believe the architect who designed the Juvenile Detention Center also designed the Adams County Jail on the corner of State Street and S. Wall. So, I don’t understand your comment about the designer lacking any “detention design experience.”

“If there’s a fire we’ll have to go to each cell to make sure it’s empty,” he [Arnold] said.

...... If there's a fire, you should check each cell regardless!

Ridiculous waste of money! Read a book about Natchez. Then take a walk on the sidewalks we already have. Now go make a hat out of Spanish moss and leave me alone.

By the way OldGrandDad, you said to Krogers "trust your elders." I feel an obligation in this society to respect the elderly, but I don't have to trust them or accept their arguments as logically valid. Krogers presented us with several excellent points. I think Krogers is not negative. He is cautious and wise beyond his years.

Will this trail also have some camping areas? ...because maybe we can keep some county inmates there in tents. And maybe George Michael can use the public bathroom when he comes here on "holiday."
