And if I was an ex LSU football player, wouldn't that give me a right to criticize the state of the football team and the direction it is going in?...I just gave myself a "self-made" pat on the back for that one...

I just call it like I see it.... trust me...there's a lot more out there with an opinion like mine...looks like they have a lot of nice new equipment there...

Play what the fans want to hear = School Board funding....

And as far as my so called "self-made pedestal"....I believe I have earned the right to voice my opinion on the subject...Have you?

First of all i will reply to this statement:

Ferriday isn't a inspiration, but more like a motivation. They have no intention of being like them or Alcorn (no one even mentions them)

Here is my reply:

con⋅tra⋅dic⋅tion

1. the act of contradicting; gainsaying or opposition.
2. assertion of the contrary or opposite; denial.
3. a statement or proposition that contradicts or denies another or itself and is logically incongruous.
4. direct opposition between things compared; inconsistency.

I am not saying that these kids aren't doing something positive, I'm just saying that the band at one time was a band for more than 4 months out of the year. I know for a fact that Vidalia has passed up on excellent teachers in the past who were actually alumnus of the band and wanted to keep the tradition of excellent music, of all genres, alive. And as far as being nastalgic, maybe i am. What do you think you lasts longer...Big Boi or Bach?....What I am saying is I hope for the students' sake that they are learning where most of the melodies of these "here today, gone tomorrow" pop and R&B songs came from. Ask Jaime Foxx...he may blame it on the al al al al al al co hol but his talent was actually shown to the world by being a classically trained pianist and learning about the composers of the past...If not, then whats the point?...I'm not bashing these kids, teachers, or the administrators. Mrs. Lewis may, in fact, be teaching these students exactly what I'm talking about. If that's the case, cudos to you. Lord knows these days it's hard enough keeping kids interested and committed to something positive. I just hope that these kids realize that there is music after, and I use this term loosely, "marching" season. That's all...this soapbox is making my legs hurt!

Excellence...wow...Let me tell you about excellence...Excellence was showing up at the marching festival in Monroe and going up against schools like West Monroe, Ouachita, Ouachita Christian, etc and blowing them out of the water with SUPERIOR marching, SUPERIOR intonation, and SUPERIOR players...at one time we were one of the best bands in the state of all sizes...I remember when musicianship was once a part of that proud Vidalia tradition...not trying to be like that band from 8 miles down the road...trust me...its not going to happen...but just a reminder...look above the chalkboard in that band hall and look at all of those awards that put the Vidalia band on the map...walking into an auditorium right after the Comeaux High School Wind ensemble (5A Mega band) had just performed the same song that you are going to perform and blowing them out of the water with kids from the river to airport road...thats excellence...or going to a marching competition and having to march right before West Monroe and getting a louder ovation then they did in their hometown...thats excellence...If i step on anyone's toes I'm sorry but I think that actually teaching music rather than teaching kids to "bob their head" is a far more valuable life lesson...I am a proud alumnus of the band and the things i learned about music are things that i have carried with me through my life...And if you are curious about who I am, my name is on that All State plaque above the chalkboard as well as my blood sweat and tears on that hardwood floor!

Seriously, how garbage of a program do you have when you fire someone, hire them back, then just for forget about the fact you fired them back in November and make them your interim coach? I know there are quality guys out there who have dominated on the high school level who would love to come in and turn that program around. Lets face it, Alcorn State Athletics is about .37 better, talent wise, than.....I don't know....any 4A school in the LHSAA...and that's being generous...Bastrop High would dominate Alcorn State RIGHT NOW!!!!!

yeah im a little concerned....i am from vidalia and i have never seen the river so high...in baton rouge now but there are still sand boils popping up around areas that have never seen them before...a neighborhood called river bend right around the brightside river road area has an inch of water in the streets from underground sand boils....im sure the levees will hold but it is sort of scary....just be prepared for anything..

On Upriver rains may change crest
