I'm sure the registration procedure is done for a very good reason. We should be willing to do what is required of us as parents to help the District do the best job they can to educate our children.

My children are grown ups now but as soon as they were old enough to carry a potato chip bag I made sure they understood where to put the empty bag. I have been known to make the neighborhood kids pick up their trash. People need to teach their children to not litter and trash their neighborhoods and the streets of our town. I'd make them go back and pick it up. I remember my son throwing something out of the car window, I politely turned the car around and made him go and pick it up. Children learn quickly, it's up to us as parents to teach them to care about the environment and take pride in where they live-no matter where they live. One trashy person can destroy a whole neighborhood.

On Do you ever litter on public streets or property?

I've always adopted a dog either from a shelter or one that needed a home. I am still concerned about a dog that I got from a family that no longer wanted the dog. They were not honest about the dog's personality. It hated kids. He tried to attack kids all the time. I have a lot of kids that come to visit from time to time and love to play with dogs. It got so bad that I had to make a decision to find a home for this dog. My husband just kept telling me I would not be able to keep the dog because it was so mean. I called the owners and they refused to take it back. A dog should become a member of your family once you get it. I was extremely upset for weeks because I had to let him go. It kept me awake nights and I still think of him from time to time. Since that time I have a sweet little dog called Sam. He is so funny he likes to stand over you until you wake up with his toy in his mouth. He likes to play and loves kids. Owning a pet is a huge responsibility. People just don't understand that. A dog chained to a tree in the backyard is not a pet.

On Have you ever owned a pet who lived in an animal shelter?
