For all of you who are bothered by left over campaign money, mine will be given to charities of my choice. It will be given over time and will be given anonymousely. Since it was given to me, I really have no right to write it off. My charities are my business, but some funds will be set aside for emergency donations. I suspect the other candidates have their own proposed uses for the money, but those uses are their business.
I suggest you folks worry about how to get a decent education for the public school students of Natchez, or be concerned about a budget run rampant. Since others haven't, and probably won't deal with these things, you might well serve our fair city by doing so. Worry about how your tax dollars are being spent.

fire and jack, NO jobs promised or even hinted at other than Everett Sanders as City Attorney. He's a fine legal mind I would like to have at my side.
Yes, I don't mind leaving my "city car" at the job. Might create parking problems, though. Do you have any ideas as to how we can solve that problem?
I answered the prison labor question earlier in some detail.
jack, some one fed you a crock re hazel and tommy ferrell. you need to check your in formation before you talk about it. they are good friends, but I prefer to choose my people via standard interviewing and personal research methods.

destiny, just what blue hairs am I kin to? what difference does it make? if you have to judge me by the people you THINK i'm kin to, you're having to look pretty deep for things to criticize!
re the new water, sewage, etc., agency, I had no previous knowledge of it. sounds like " those in power" should have known and fought the whole idea. sounds very socialistic to me.
In answer to all this talk about experience ( my opponents only real claim to fame), who can tell me how many mayors in the history of Natchez began their mayoral duties WITH experience,i.e., were members of the board of aldermen before becoming mayor? my guess is very few.
eagle1--most football players of my era were required to complete rigorous academic requirements along with football, at least at my school. the vast majority of my team mates have become very successful businessmen, as have I. I must assume this was also true at U.S.M.?
To say the least, we had to work a good deal harder than most other students, and this has been helpful in later years. My coaching experience was "team building" at its best, and successful insurance sales people are not a dime a dozen. anyone who would make a careless statement like that is pretty irresponsible.

I responded to your post on the "Tourism Tax" article of today's paper. Hope it answers your questions. And where the water issue is concerned, maybe EKK can read MS Code 21-27-7 and post his findings re legality. We'll see if his findings are the same as the opinions I got from our attorneys. In addition, there are at least 2 other grounds upon which a reduction or elimination of the water rates might be deemed illegal.

NatchezEnema,
If I'm not mistaken, I am the first and until very recently the only candidate to mention and hang my hat on attacking the budget problem and the public school system as solutions to our problems. I am not convinced that a recreation facility at the old Belwood site ( where shooting gar with a bow and arrow during each high water session) is a viable solution to anything. My opponent has not presented ideas as to where the money will come from for a new department within an existing one, i.e.,to pave our city streets. What happened to the department originally created for that purpose? Where's the money coming from for the new paving machine my opponent suggested? A tax increase, perhaps? More ideas without concern for cost ,(new, "experienced" theory of city government here?)
My opponent said public education is not the job of the mayor. Well, if Natchez is to survive, it darn sure better be SOME BODY'S job! I am well aware of the limits of the mayor's office where public education is concerned, but I am also aware of what the mayor as a person can do if so driven. I have decided to jump into that fray against much advice---because it's THAT important! No meaningful economical developement will take place here until the children of corporate employees can get a satisfactory public education in our schools. Once they can, companies of all sorts, from menial to highly technical jobs being offered, will come to Natchez because of all we have to offer.
The differences between the 2 candidates should be becoming increasingly obvious.

OGD, Thx for your question. I respectfully disagree with you regarding the use of CCA's least violent/ dangerous inmates to beautify our entrances. I'm sure the vast majority of our visitors have witnessed prison or jail labor working on the roadsides. In fact, as a child, I remember travelling and being excited seeing gangs of prisoners doing roadside labor, black and white striped clothes and all. I also remember determining that I would never have cause to do that kind of work. In addition, I strongly support the use of city jail inmates to keep the down town clean, as it should be. Another thought-- instead of suspending so many sentences, our courts might consider community service ( cleaning up our town ). This would free up these young men in "city black and white" to clean up some of these unsightly vacant lots and do the more rigorous jobs neccessary to keep our city clean. All three of these labor uses would save the city money! Now, this was introduced by my opponent. Well guess what--- we can get a ton of stuff done if we don't care who gets credit! He mentioned the CCA, I added most of the rest. Thanks for your interest.

One more brief thought-- if any one has questions as to where I stand, why I stand there, or wish to voice dissent regarding my positions, please feel free to let me know via this blog. I welcome the opportunity to learn new ideas.

As you can see, I am "Chick", the 26 represents my jersey number at Georgia Tech(gt). I am extremely proud of both, and I don't particularly care who knows it or what they think of it. I joined this blog to answer NatchezEnema's statement that I danced around the tourism question posed by the intelligencia at the N.D.
To put it bluntly, I was cut off by "we're out of time" exactly where you see my answer end. Naturally, no explanation of that was given by the "fairness experts" at the Democrat. If you are interested in the rest of my answer, here it is.
Any time conditions change, either locally or on a national scale--and both occurred following the 70's and 80's, the methods, systems, and often the people needed to deal with the new situations must be brought under close scrutiny. In my opinion, when these facets of the tourism industry either fail to adapt, or do so inadequately, to the new conditions, they are all subject to being changed or replaced. The new assessment is a neccessary and proper first step---only if it is properly administered,i.e., the funds are used only for the promotion of Natchez, and no single private entity can profit from them. I have confidence at this time that the committee in charge of appointing the budgeting group will place there people whose sole agenda is ALL of Natchez and is not self-serving. Oversight and final approval by the Mayor and Board of Aldermen is written into the Bill, and as Mayor, I can assure you due dilligence will be observed. In short, Natchez needs this new source of funding. It is essential for the scope and breadth of advertising needed in todays tourist world.
NatchezEnema( please get a more dignified name!), I hope this more clearly defines my position. If you have further questions, please address them to this blog.
Thanks for your interest.

FYI, folks,
I have been giving anonymously for years to many charities, both national and local. To whom I choose to give is known only to me, my CPA, and my God. I prefer it that way because I am personally uncomfortable "tooting my own horn" announcing to whom I give and when. That's just me. You are free to second guess all you want---have at it if it gives you a kick.
Also, Kevin would do well to publish reports on how our tax dollars are spent, rather than focusing on donations to campaigns of candidates because people believed in their person and what that person stood for. A closer examination of "who gave what to whom, and for what reasons" might be in order.
Additionally, what follows the election may be much more interesting than what was "promised" during the process (and add to that , what DOES NOT occur after the new folks take office--a sip of water perhaps?). Keep your eyes open Natchez, and you too Kevin.
On Don’t vote for me; just give me the cash
