Most gas stations that are pre-pay won't even allow you to pump the gas until you pay...and then it stops at whatever amount you pay the cashier. So, if your station isn't doing this...then it's your own fault.
As long as Natchez has the highest gas in Mississippi along with the lowest pay scales, then people will continue to attempt whatever they can to steal gas. I'm not saying it's right, but what the hell? Why can the gas station owners in Natchez control the price of gas the way they do here and price gouge the citizens and tourists?
It's ridiculous and they should be cited for doing what they've been doing for years.

On High gas prices lead to high crime rates in gas drive-offs

To mimic others before me...AMEN!! It's not just here in Natchez though. Sadly, we have come to a place where people just don't care! I actually wrote a 'letter to the editor' about this exact thing. I had a day from hell retailing experience not to long ago and Wal Mart was one of the culprits. Along with McDonald's (on the highway) who was OUT OF ICE at 12:00 noon. Being out of ice was bad enough, but being told that I had to go to the drive thru in order to get my ice sent me into a bit of a rage!
I know it's hard to find people to work and to do a good job, but management needs to take control. I worked for my aunt one Christmas in her store in Jackson...a VERY successful business woman for 30 years. When she asked me to come and help, she told me that she paid her workers by the hour and expected them to work by the hour. Not a terrible thing to expect from your employees.
Natchez is getting worse and you should definitely call it to the attention of management when things like this happen. May or may not do any good, but you'll never know until you try.

On Weekend vacation leaves questions

This is INSANE!!! I'm not racist, so let me say that first. But Freedom42, I concur. When is it going to stop? I've watched the Miss USA Pageant and there are black people in it...why is it necessary to have a Miss BLACK USA Pageant? Are there white people in it? Same for the Miss Black Louisiana...think of the money being spent on these ludacris events!!! And Ferriday is probably one of the poorest cities in our area-why the hell would the town pay for this trip. Good for you Mr. Harris!!! If I voted in Ferriday I'd vote for you!

This has been a problem in Natchez since the first boat docked Under the Hill. I'm not saying it's right-it's just been a way of life for YEARS. My parents drank in front of me when I was growing up and I'm not an alcoholic. My parents didn't condone underage drinking. I had a few friends who's parents let us drink at their house. If we needed a ride, we could call any of our parents to come and pick us up and they would. This problem stems from so many things and it's hard to blame 'parents' for it. Maybe if our young people had something to do to entertain themselves, then drinking wouldn't be such an issue. The Confederate Pageant has ALWAYS been an 'open bar' for underage drinkers-THAT is going to be an act of CONGRESS to stop that, but as for finding a way to keep our kids from drinking...it's going to have to start with the leaders of this city. If you can get money for asphalt, you can get money for other things. The roads in this town piss me off too, but instead of focusing on things like that, why not focus on a NEW, CLEAN movie theatre-a book store where you can hang out-there are LOTS of ideas. Just ask.

Parents are respsonsible for their children, bottom line. But if we as a community want to HELP, we have to find an alternative.

USMBOY...again I say, that's not DHS it's our screwed up system. Doing the 'right' thing seems to always be the 'wrong' thing where family law is concerned.

On Child advocates say MDHS is broken

I've not dealt with DHS, however being 'involved' in the Chancery Court system in Adams County I can tell you that the entire system needs to be investigated...attorneys and judges, where the welfare of children is concerned. It is apparent that a particular judge here in Adams County is 'notorious for taking his time' in the judgement of a case regardless of the urgency of the situation. And I quote that from an Adams County 'attorney'~I won't even get started on the attorneys here...they wake up everyday and PLAY a POWER game with each other not even considering their clients lives and more importanly the lives of helpless, innocent children. So, my point here is this...I don't think MDHS is the only 'organization' that should be at fault here in situations such as this...the entire system is flawed and our 'elected' officials should be made to do their jobs and be held accountable when the welfare of a child is left to hang in the air until they get good and ready to make a ruling. What happens in the meantime could be devasting.

On Vacant houses need attention

Posted on March 27 at 8:50 a.m.

Is the antebellum home on State St. extension (Arlington, I believe)...is it considered abandoned, vacant or an eyesore or is it even on the list of properties discussed at the meetings? The owner will NOT sell it and there have been countless offers made. THIS piece of property desperately needs some attention.
