Justine, Why does it matter how large the donations were? If I would have had the money, I'd have given Middleton $50,000. If I ever run for office, I hope Worley is on my side. Look at it this way. Middleton beat Graning by a 3-1 margin. Graning raised more money despite only having a 3rd of the support Middleton had. Amazing, tells you one thing, his small 3rd of supporters must have had some big big money. (what we've been saying all along)
What you have to ask yourself is why did Graning's campaign not spend more? He has more left over than Middleton, Pollard and Fortenberry combined. That's got to disgust someone who lost. Not quite sure I understand that, they've got to be having some regrets.
As for the Democrat, what a piece of lazy reporting. All it would have taken was one call to the attorney generals office to find out what candidates can do with this money. Guess what people, when it's all over, they can do whatever they want. It's their money to keep. And if you didn't donate the money yourself, quite frankly, it's none of your business what they do with it.

GREAT ELECTION!!! Good job Jake!! I wish Chic the best, great, quality guy. Hope I didn't offend you in any way on these blogs.
Sammohon, glad I don't have to read your complete drivel about Jake anymore at all hours of the day and night. Jeez, what the heck do you do??? You post all night and all day.
This is what you stated a while back: "My prediction for the primary is West 64% and Middleton with 36% with a pretty good size turn out of around 40%."
Well Sammohon, it appears your numbers were somewhat accurate, it was just the wrong election. Ha, couldn't resist.

uh, last I checked NATCHEZADVOCATE, the city is in GREAT shape and the things happening around town now are incredible. Where do you live???? Hotels are being built for a reason, casinos are locating here for a reason, a prison is being built here for a reason, Rentech is locating here for reason. Wake up, REALLY GOOD things are happening right now and people like you refuse to acknowledge them.
Also, OLDERTHANDIRT, being a football player does not qualify one for mayor either, nor does being an insurance salesman, both are a dime a dozen. Sorry if seeing Graning at these meetings out of nowhere(Chamber included) right at election time seems a bit insincere.
Jake runs a successful business (actually employs people) QUALITY 1, and he's been in city government for 16 years QUALITY 2. A vote for Graning is based on friendship. A vote for Middleton is based on experience (and friendship).

Jake for mayor without any question. Granning has ZERO experience and has just now begun attending functions such as board meetings and chamber meetings. Jake has been attending these meetings for 16+ years, not just around election time. This is nothing against Granning, good guy. But the Democrats endorsement of Jake was spot on and completely justified. Their two resumes don't even compare. Only a biased fool would think otherwise.
VOTE JAKE 08!!

By the way Sammohan, keep in mind that the Graning "machine" bought those beautiful signs you refer to at Office Depot, not a locally owned business. Their excuse is the local business couldn't get them in the time frame they wanted them. Well, I've got two arguments for that lame excuse. One, it only proves he did, in fact, throw his hat in the ring on a last second whim. Two, why did he need his signs up for the Democratic Primary??? He's not running until June.

Sammohan, Middleton did what he could to undermine West?? That is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. Did you not read the more than kind words Middleton had for West in the Democrat when he won. The people backing Graning absolutely DESPISE West. His real supporters are fully aware of this. The people backing Graning are the ones who have been undermining West for the last couple of years. Everyone is also fully aware that the Graning group is trying their hardest to get PW's base to vote for him. I can assure you that Middleton is doing the same, he's reaching out to them everyday.
As far as the "machine," that's the word of others out there. I didn't come up with that. Most people with any intelligence are fully aware of the group of people that are backing Graning. Don't get me wrong, there are some wonderful people voting for him, but the core group that put him up to this is, well, less than desirable.
Old GrandDad, I did make a post about the Garden District a while back and yes, I have friends that live there. That was a broad statement I should have retracted. But there's some truth to it also. Most of his signs are concentrated in that area for a reason. Keep in mind to that Graning litters every yard with two signs, not one like Middleton. Again, if you leave the immediate downtown area, the Middleton signs are 4 to 1.
I base my vote for Middleton on several factors. One, he's been wanting this position for years,(really wanting it) he didn't throw his hat in the ring at the last moment on a whim. Two, he's probably the most hard working human I've ever known, the fact he's growing his business despite losing some of his best customers (IP) is hard proof. Three, he's one of the most honest men I've ever known, you will not here about him or his campaign paying off certain groups for votes. Four, I've seen him at work as a salesman, he's incredible. We need a mayor who will work tirelessly selling our town. Five, he's NEVER left here despite having a long time previous job elsewhere, he commuted two hours each way daily for several years, that my friend, is a love for your town. Because of that success, he now owns a successful business employing locals, adding to the tax base and still wants to run this town. He doesn't need the money, he doesn't need the headache or the stress but he still BADLY wants to do it. Simply amazing.

Hitormiss, Unless you think they are idiots or can be completely bought off (rumored), the West supporters know exactly the people behind the Graning campaign and their feelings towards West. You are correct in saying that doesn't necessarily translate into Graning's personal feelings. No matter, they are aware of the machine backing Graning and do not want that group in power. What makes you think I'm speaking "for" them and not with them?

Hitormiss, The P.West votes should go to Middleton. The very group backing Graning is the same group that absolutely HATES P. West and has been a thorn in his side since the Pecan Factory debacle. The P. West backers understand this and will vote for Middleton.

No problem with downtown, it's the most beautiful town in America. Let me clarify. I am talking about a specific group (of which the majority lives in the garden district or not far from it) that is backing Graning. Just drive through that area and count the signs. I have a problem with them, their arrogance, their elitism and their notion that they are going to run this town the way they see fit. The average Natchezian doesn't like it and I think it's safe to say the average minority doesn't like it. Just one person's opinion. Graning wasn't even their first choice for mayor, that is a fact and one I doubt you'll admit. They had a #1 choice, he declined and they started searching. I'm only sorry Graning got caught in the middle.
With Jake there was no search, no lists, no group looking for some specific candidate to cater to their needs. Just one honest, hard working man who has thought for years he could make a difference, without catches and without an interest group pulling him in a certain direction.

There was a new election for a reason: fraud. To date, nobody has been arrested for fraud. WHY?? The District Attorney needs to get off his arse and prosecute somebody. Unbelievable.
