Tom, here's an idea. How about Tax Credits for people who send their kids to PRIVATE SCHOOLS. The private schools are BETTER otherwise they wouldn't exist. Basically I'm paying for school twice, once in taxes for the public system and second in fees for the private institution. Race has NOTHING to do with it, the quality of the education and what the kids are being exposed to do. Also, by giving tax credits, this might afford a less fortunate family to send their kids to private schools. I hate the fact that our public school system is horrible but it's a fact. That's not to say that there aren't some really good teachers there, there is and I know them. It's not the teachers that worry me though.

mrmojorisin , you have no idea what you are talking about. It does send a wrong message to the MDA. We just turned down FREE MONEY to partially fund a project the Board is planning on doing anyway. Now the MDA will give that money to another needy community in our state and they will be happy to take it.

Tom, I think you would be surprised to know who was on her side in city hall, including the mayor. One day I hope this will all come out...but as for now, knowing what I know, you guys are clueless.

On City Grants Coordinator Brett Brinegar resigns

GT, her intentions are not something we can know which is EXACTLY why you get someone else to corroborate her story.

OldDad, I guess that's where you and I disagree. I don't see where our city government is in shambles nor do I believe that they are in it for their own self-serving interests. They've taken PAY CUTS for God Sakes. It may be true for a couple of them but certainly not all of them. They are currently fixing the budget mess that originated with the previous administration. Being in a recession hasn't helped that issue either. We are not the only small town hurting in this way.

OK,
Fact one: Jake doesn't get a vote unless there is a tie. It appears as though these decisions have been unanimous.
Fact two: The Democrat took the word of the Grant Writer without waiting for any other confirmation from ANY city official.
Fact three: The only rumors I started to hear about layoffs came from the Natchez Democrat and no other source.
Fact four: layoffs were needed
Fact five: layoffs have occurred
Fact six: you people are still unhappy
Fact seven: it's confusing as to why everyone is up in arms over layoffs everyone new was coming and needed.
Fact eight: You people are never satisfied especially the ones who are still bitter their candidate lost last year.
Fact nine: there is not a good way to lay off anyone.
Fact ten: Seibert supported Graning.
Fact eleven: it was the previous administration that got us in this financial mess by over hiring and over spending.
Fact twelve: the current Board and Mayor are trying to fix the mess.
Fact thirteen: they have already cut their salaries.
Fact fourteen: you people are still complaining about their salaries.
Fact fifteen: you guys will NEVER be satisfied.

Jake does not have a vote. We all knew layoffs were needed yet when it actually happens everyone whines and complains in the manner in which it was done. There is no good way to layoff someone.

Maybe if the Democrat would quit printing hearsay as fact and wait until the facts come in, then maybe they wouldn't be confused. As far as I can tell, the only confusion has come from the Democrat as a result of stories THEY HAVE PRINTED.

Just so all you people understand, Jake doesn't have a vote in this. He only serves as a tie breaker. So all your calls concerning the mayor are a bit ridiculous. And Seibert and Co. were backing another candidate last year, it's completely UNFAIR to get comments from them.

Wow, what a surprise! Some much needed layoffs have occurred. The grant writer was saved thanks to all of your complaints. Now, you guys still whine and complain. Sheez. Glad I don't know any of you people, what a miserable existance you guys have.
