I agree.
If qualified law officers want, or need to relocate to Natchez, they shouldn't be subjected to this.
Compensate them according to their credentials. An officer with an exemplary resume should not start at entry level.

The guy had a gun. Do whatever it takes to get out of the situation.
He probably called 911 straight away with details of his stolen car by an armed criminal.

Guns don't kill. The person using them kills.
The glass didn't kill, until McQuarters picked it up.
