I can remember very clearly the events of 9/11. I was in the Air Combat Command headquarters at Langley Air Force Base when we were notified of what was taking place. Langley officials scrambled the two alert F-16 fighter planes immediately after the first plane hit one of the towers. I was on a secure call to the communications center at the Pentagon when it was hit. The person I was talking to simply said that they were routing all communications back through Langley and "Good Luck".

The 3 fighter squadrons on Langley AFB and the fighters from nearby Naval Air Station at Oceana immediately started flying Combat Air Patrol missions up and down the entire east coast. What amazes me the most is that in the early 80's there were over 2000 planes on alert in the US - on 9/11 there were only 10.

On Seven years later, how do you feel about 9/11?
