I remember when my children did theirs. I wish they would have been acknowledged in the paper then. Glad these children are getting their work recognized! The kids have a lot of fun doing it.

WRONG WEBSITE in article!!! If anyone wants to register online the correct website is actually www.outofthedarkness.org The article has ".com" listed but that won't work. Please pass the word around.

Oh yeah, I completely forgot to say congratulations to Amanda. That is wonderful. I will keep following your story to see how you are doing!!!
I think I should do it for my son and pray that the money is raised. I have put a call in to the teacher that nominated him because I have a list of questions before I make a decision about pursuing this. He is only 11 and that scares me to send him on something like that at such a young age. But it really is too good of an opportunity to pass up.

After posting my comment, I then read the article again. I didn't know you could set up bank accounts and ask for donations to send kids to things like this. Maybe I should try that. I sure would hate for him to pass up the opportunity to do something like that.

My son was nominated to go to the Junior Young Leaders Conference in the fall, but there is absolutely no way I can afford to send him. It is VERY expensive!!! I wish they would put something in the paper about those younger ones that were nominated - even if they can't make the trip.

I think this is a wonderful thing to do. I believe it is NEVER too early to start children with books. Teach them to love books and teach them how to treat books. I wish they would have been doing it when I had my youngest here!

I saw that, too. Had to drive right past it. Hope the driver of the truck was ok. All the "stuff", I guess stuff that was on the truck was still on the side of the road this morning.

I just wish it had childcare. But since there are no staff members there, I can see why that is impossible for them. If they did, I would join!

Deedles - I am happy to hear that you were using the Baton Rouge Crisis Center. They are wonderful people. I used to travel back and forth and go but it got to where I just couldn't go anymore. They are such a great help.

Just a note - the local band "In Red Letters" will be playing a few songs for us at the conclusion of the walk. Please come out and join us as we raise awareness for this horrible tragedy that affects many in our community.
