If I had just sat back and let the school teach my child only he would not of learned how to write in cursive but no this mom spend many of nights while other children were playing ball and other activities teaching her child how to write in cursive and how to read it. I also read all I could about my childs disabiltiy so that that I could be a activite partner in his IEP meetings. I have taught a many of teachers about my son's disorder so that they could help other students they may get. I am even donating a book this year to help them understand how things effect him during the school day. I could sit back and complain but no I want my child to be all he can be.

I found the information I had on greatschools.net. I think they post the state achievement test score on that page also. I also don't agree that special education students should not take state test. That is one way a parent knows if their child is not left behind. As the parent of a special education child I want to know how my child compares to his typical peers. My child that took the ACT at 12 is classifed as special education. My child has aspergers a form of autism. My child also takes the state assessments and is in the advanced mastery on all test. As parents we have to do our job also we can't leave it all up to the schools. We have to hold them accountable and to be their partner in educating our students.

I had read this before when I was comparing ACT scores among Vidalia and Natchez schools. My son took the ACT last year as a 7th grader. At 12 he has a higher score than the local public schools.

I agree Roselawn was once a very nice area. I was in town last month and I thought it was the new projects. I grew up there in the 70's and early 80's. I don't understand the landlords that put up with tenants that park in the yards, trash on the street, loud music and grass uncut. It used to be a area where people had pride and the area showed it. You did not have to lock your car or even your house. No one bother things that did not belong to them. Neighbors watched out for others and kids knew that mom or dad better not get a call that you had done something. We had too many eyes on us back then. My parents finally sold their house as well as most of the people that lived near them.

It does not matter where you live but that you have pride in yourself. I used to live in Natchez and on a recent trip there I noticed my old neighbor hood had gone to the pits. Cars parked in the yards, trash outside, yards not cut, people with blaring music hanging outside, etc. and then my mom and I went to a yard sale in what I call a old black part of town. The yards were nicely cut with the exception of one yard where the house had burned. It does not matter if you are white or black you can still have pride in where you live. I think the reason my old neighbor hood had went down is that now there are landlords renting to whoever and the old homeowners moving out. Whatever happened to having pride and keeping your yard up even if you are not the home owner.

I was in Natchez visiting this weekend. We went to a few stores in town. I could not believe how rude people were blowing their car horn as I was waiting on a parking space. This did not just happen at one place but several. Whatever happened to being nice in letting the person get out of the space before you are pulling into it. I left Natchez almost 20 years ago and move to the big city. Natchez has went downhill since I left.

They have them in Germantown, TN. When I have to go to Germantown I am very cautious of these intersections. They fine also but it is only $50.00. Since they installed the red light cameras I make fewer trips through there. If is it not for a doctors appointment or something else important I avoid Germtownton all together. I will be finding out where the cameras are installed in Natchez and will avoid those areas also. In Germantown I stop on green lights if I was not one of the first ones through as it changes so quick and I don't want to be caught in the middle of the intersection. They don't take a picture of the driver just the tag, so don't share your car or you might be getting someone's elses ticket. It was installed there because of the number of wrecks there at certain intersections. Germantown police are everywhere even before the cameras. It is not a town you speed in. It may hurt Natchez only industry when out of towners get tickets.

Where I live every chid must prove their residency every school year. It is not a big deal either. They have forms and when you register your chld you show mortgage papers, contract to buy (requires further documination). light bill, renters or lease papers, property tax docouments, etc. and the school personel check off which one was shown.
