The Insurance coverage for the City of Vidalia has changed 2 or 3 times in the last 4 yrs. No, they do not look at the coverage, only their out of pocket expense. You would think that the city would really want to take care of the employees ..... VIDALIA is growing! This is the first I have heard of them wanting to change or should I say 'CHANGING' our coverage, but not surprised ... who gets a raise now?

lookingout..... I have followed them and ask them to turn the music down or slow down in the neighborhood. I didn't say that "I made an arrest"!!!!! When calling the PD, they ask for a tag number so they can run it. People run the stop signs and speed through the neighborhood like crazy... we have alot of children in this area. It needs to stop!!! Why not be able to give the PD what they ask for in order to stop them.

Congradulations Tapper!! I believe in you and you have the will to change what you see needs to be changed.
I agree with all the comments on the loud music..... I hate it! I call the VPD everytime I hear hit, see someone run the stop sign, or driving too fast....I get a tag #, and I will go look for them myself. I don't care who you are or who your parents are ... don't speed, don't run a stop sign or have your music load. I hate admitting this, but I have turned into my parents now that I have children of my own and I could be worse!!!!!

He is not wrapped all that tight. He has has many protective orders against him also. I will pray for him, aswell for his family. His mother is really a great person!!!!

That would be a great idea, BUT just think of the Bull that would be said on this site about it. I have seen that alot of the bloggers here are just bored, unhappy people that think 'if it's not my idea, it's not a good idea'. I pray for the ones who comment on a tragedy by dogging the victim. People who speak in negativity are the very unhappy - bitter life ones. May God touch your heart oneday and you change.

I agree with KreweMember2!!! This dept. is not used for inmates, it is used at times for a holding cell for minors. Yes, who have committed a crime!!! As far the exchange of children .... you apparently don't have that luxury. Alot of times, the other parent is not on time or maybe a threat has been made. The article never mentioned that Tapper was going to turn it into a Holiday Inn. He said "First Impression" that means walking in the front door. When a criminal (minor) is taken to the VPD they are taken through the back door or if not a minor, to the CPSO. I agree with keeping the cells cold and uncomfortable, but for a first impression -- yes it needs a facelift. People from out of town stop by police depts for directions...it is not used for just criminal use. I want the town of Vidalia to be known as a nice place, even the front entrance of the VPD!!!!

The police dept. is not only used for criminal use. If you drive by any dept. on Friday evening or Sunday evening, you will most likely see divorced parents exchanging their children. Alot of Judges make the police dept. a meeting/exchange place for minors. That is done for the sake of the child. The dept. does need a facelift that will make people feel comfortable. This dept. does not even house inmates, they are taken to CPSO at the end of the day. But, think about it..... if a judge ruled that you exchange your child at the VPD, would you want then to feel comfortable being there? Maybe some wouldn't, but that is b/c your divorce situation. I have been in that situation, my daughter was scared of police and the VPD for years. It needs to be a more comfortable place for the non-criminals.

BOBCAT, there was a little girl that was hit while ridding her bike yrs ago, she was my sisters bestfriend. That was the reason that so many stop signs were placed in the neighborhood. She was a happy child that had just learned to ride her bike and was hit by a family member. Sadly, there are not sidewalks on all of the streets for children to ride their bikes on. The point is not that we let our children play in the streets here, the point is people should not be allowed to drive like a nascar driver either. I am happy to see the VPD in the "Fruit Loop". Gator - this traffic is not from the Fruit of the Loom... it's teenagers, young adults and people who live right here in the neighborhood that speed through the stop signs. You don't have access to FOTL through the neighborhood. For many yrs the citizens have had to raise total hell about this situation, THANK YOU TAPPER for stepping up and being the chief that you we have needed.
On Traffic tickets up in Vidalia
