I also heard that they donated turkeys to the children's home, stew pot, Kyles house, and the sunshine shelter. Way to go Isle of capri, it is good to see your presence back out in the community. This is a company that is always coming up with ideas to help in our community, we appreciate all of you.

It appears that they had a much larger turnout than anticipated, which is a good thing. It was great to see the huge turnout for such a great cause. The employees were working as hard as they could to make sure everyone was taken care of in spite of the freezing wind right off the river.

It is great to see young people get involved in fundraising for such great events. Our yong people tend to get involved in the drugs that they lose focus of what the world is really faced with. If eveyone who reads the Democrat would donate $1.00, this young ladies's efforts would be not be in vain. expenses coming out of her pocket has got to be well over $1000-00 for gas, hotel and food. Not for sure if she has met her goal, but I wish you, Summer, all the best and Thank you for your caring, it means alot in these troubled times>

Rising electric bills, rising food prices, rising gas prices Oh My!. The price of the utilty rates going up is not nor has been a secret. The Sidney Murray Hydro-Electric plant was to prevent this from happening, however, wasn't it sold to LEPA. You look at all the so called industry coming to Vidalia, and now you hear of a tax increase being a possibility, what has happened to all the money that the city of Vidalia has received from the sale/lease of the riverfront. This City has been and is still full of crooks, just as it was back in the early days. You are told 1 thing and then down the road are demanded another, makes you wonder what is happening to the real politics in this town. The utility rates do not have to be raised, just give back the raises that you have given yourself. Hey, Vidalia leadership, why don't you make a sacrifice every now and then and ease the sacrifice pain on the less fortunate. Park those expensive vehicles, save fuel and take a bike to work like the real working people are having to do!!!!!!!

If not the town's money on the Natchez Casino, why not in Las Vegas, how convenient is this. I feel that the city of Ferriday has been through so much from the water problems to the publicity with the Speed Trap. Gene Allen has taken enough from this City and he needs to leave the Mayor's Office in good standing. Just in case he decides to run again (NOT). Pay his own way or stay at home.

They should also consider Canal street at the old railroad tracks. It is apparent that the city officials wanted to re-pave the area from the tracks on Canal to downtaown for the tourism, but there are alot of us who work downtown that travel Canal and that part of the street is in bad need of repair.

Who is to be held responsible for the water drainage system not working properly. Was this not tested at the tme of installation. It seems to be that the riverfront was just thrown together without the thought of maybe a FLOOD. It was stated in an earlier article that the riverfront was built on a 500 year flood plan, someone did not read that plan correctly. And it is funny to think that the STREET department placed sandbags over the drainage holes to keep water out, how stupid was this. The force of the water it not stopped by man's ignorance alone. Next time think before you build, and they may still come!

Here goes another incident in front of the Junior High. Why is it that no one seems to think that this could be a potential problem instead of making light of the fact that someone was shot. What would have happened if you were in line waiting for your child, or if your child was walking home after school and got hit. This is no laughing or joking matter and I feel that grown-ups need to find another place to play and take things more serious instead of getting on ND and writing such ignorant comments. Had your child been struck by a stray bullet and lost their life, would you still be making these stupid remarks ITHINK NOT!! Grow up and get a life!

This is the most ignorant stuff I have ever heard of. The Cops have everything under control at the school. People listen to what you are saying AT SCHOOL. For crying out loud, is there no safe place anymore. Every parent of these kids should know who they are and if anything comes out of this the parents should be given a citation and the PUNKS of the "uptown" and "downtown" groups arrested. It is ashamed when you as a parent can not even got to work without the fear of your child not being safe at school. The police departments and the SHERIFF's office know who these kids are and before something drastic happens they should get them off the street. This thing called police protection at the school is a joke. These kids don't care if it happens at school or on the street and some innocent person is going to get hurt. I feel that all parents concerned should sign a petition to have your child home schooled at the Sheriff's, police and school boards expense, that way we can protect our own children and not have to rely on local police enforcement , who cannot even stop drug dealers in our neighborhoods, after they have all the evidence needed to get them off the street. Makes you wonder who is REALLY involved in the Drug World in Vidalia.
