On Copper theft a major problem

i was just curious...i know when someone enters your house, you are allowed to shoot them, but what if they are outside of the home? i saw a news report once of a man who was inside his home and saw someone outside robbing his neighbor's house. he was on the phone with 911 telling them to hurry and when they weren't there yet and the theif was getting away, he shot and killed him. he got in trouble and was arrested for murder, i think. are there different laws in different states? it would be my luck to shoot the thug and then i would end up in prison.

i heard an announcement on the radio (97.3) and i heard it was in the paper. my kids brought home a sheet in their back pack and i knew about it because i volunteered to help with some stuff. i guess it is like a lot of things. it just gets missed. anyway, i think this is something that downtown is planning on doing every year, so plans can be made next year. i heard it is going to be 2-4, instead of 12-4. if you want to come early and picnic you can, but it also gives people a little more flexibility to have lunch with family after church. also, easter will be later next year, so hopefully it won't be windy and cold. anyway, it was nice and we will go next year for sure. the kids had fun.

hi buttercup and freedom42, thanks for your kind words and great advice. it is because of people like you that i loooove natchez! also, we are considering getting a dog, but our cats will probably go crazy. the kids are better actually. thanks for your concern. a lot of fun occasions have come up and things seem to be getting easier. we are replacing bad memories and thoughts with good ones. take care.

hi freedom42, should probably say no more than i do, but i just really want to see so much get done. i am dying to get these old, run down buildings cleaned up and help bring in more business and tourism for natchez. i'm just trying to make it a better place. my children are not grown, but are old enough to stay by themselves, the only problem is now, they are terrified. they won't go up to their bedrooms or down to the kitchen, by themselves anymore. all of those sweet, innocent home town little chores like babysitting & selling magazines to the neighbors or running up to grab some ice cream at the coffee shop are over. i am very skiddish, but they are extremely rattled. i'll ask them to run up to their rooms to get their dirty clothes and their eyes are filled with tears they are so scared. so, i am becoming impatient. time will pass and bad memories will fade. while we are on the subject though, does anyone not find it odd that since they have been keeping an eye on the "very strong suspect", there has not been much activity downtown? i do not think the other incidents are related (maybe duncan park, because he would have time to get home, but not inez street)
oh, and sorry if this is TMI

i was not taking a relaxing day in the park...who has time for that. oh yeah, the police chief does. whatever. i was running kids from point a to point b, trying to get them settled before i went back to close everything down at work. i was not hanging out at the parade, i saw him when i was walking into town after i had gotten home from work to meet my kids that were at the parade with friends. i had gotten home from a job i love and take great pride in as well as all of the volunteering i do for the city of natchez, the historic foundation, garden club fundraising (the only projects i work on are to benefit the city of natchez-i could care less whose daughter is queen) and work i do at my kids' school. sorry, i guess i am just a little on edge due to the fact that i have a personal relationship with several of the people who have been victims of the robberies. but you guys make me feel much better. what am i so worried about? everything is fine and i guess i am being completely unreasonable. if i have a job to do, i stay until it is finished, work through lunch, late, go in early, work weekends...my husband has a deadline, he works all night to get it done. but this is reg. job stuff, you know, not life and death stuff...not dealing with a repeat offender on the street.

i was riding thorugh duncan park the other day and saw the chief taking a nice afternoon walk down the street with his family. it was such a nice sight, but hello! am i the only person in the world that thinks he should be at the office every waking hour to figure out what is going on here? i also saw him cruising through the mardi gras parade throwing an occasional bead. huh? that is just not my work ethic. we need someone who is truly concerned with getting things done.

i know people that have been victims and they have never heard a word from the sheriff's dept. i have also heard of others who have been stolen from and they contacted the sheriff's dept. themselves and were told that it was not in their jurisdiction. they live around the block from the sheriff's dept. in a beautiful home. the npd is shorthanded, the sheriff's dept. can't be bothered. what a sad state of affairs.
