tar and feather sounds okay to me...Brett was by far the best hire that the aldermen made.. I will not give West the credit ..as a matter fact if Brett was Mayor we'd be in a whole lot better shape ..and you make a lot of good points.
Sounds like we both love this city and want what is best. I'd keep Brett and give her even more responsibility

Old Grand Dad,
List what she has brought in...When Butch Brown was Mayor each department head was mandated to bring in at least one grant for his dprt each year and they did it. That pretty much wiped out the need for a full time grant writer..by the way during his tenurre Natchez had a part time grant writer and 3 people in planning.

If the Natchez Democrat wanted a great story it would be to identify those new hires that Mayor West made with one time money (Katrina) although he was warned repeatedly that the city had no recurring revenue to substantiate any of these salaries. The combines salaries of the people listed below is over 250.000 plus benefits.
Darlene Jones -Comm. Dev. Director
Pam Paterson- Administrative asst.
Brett Brinegar -Grants Coordinator & Cultural Resorce Dir.
Walter Huston - Asst planner
Dawn Williams -Planning specialist
Anite Smith - Code enforcement officer
Willie Jones - Code enforcement officer
Henry Harris - Director of Tennis

First of all the Mayor and board of aldermen cannot be recalled. Jake and the alderman know that if they just go back to the staffing they had before Mayor Wests' term began then we would have a surplus as we always had.
The planning dprt is grossly overstaffed. The fire and police can cut back without anyone feeling any effects whatsoever. Layoffs is the only answer to the citys' budget problem and Jake knows that but is scared he won't be reelected if the does what he should. Also the EDA should be put on hold until the budget woes are fixed. The EDA has no director and 2 ladies that make 40,000 each and do absolutely nothing. (There is nothing for them to do)

FYI...The city of Natchez (in its bylaws) is supposed to conduct all meetings in accordance with Robert Rules of Order. The mayor is in total control of the agenda and no one can speak unless recognized by the mayor...noone.
The mayor also determines the agenda and any deviation from the posted agenda (reprimanding Mr Gardner) is not allowed. There is security at each mtg and if any person doesn't adhere to the mayors agenda or speaks out of turn they are supposed to be removed by the parliamentarian.
To do this the mayor would have to grow some ..... and take control of the mtg and run Natchez business as it is intended. No alderman can make a motion unless recognized by the chair (mayor). If Jake would just go by the bylaws of this great city the party would be over for the Ward 1 and Ward 2 alderpersons and any other persons wishing to disrupt city business. If any matter is brought up and becomes lengthy and non-productive the mayor can call the discussion to a halt by saying "time has expired on this subject" and it would end all arguments or discussion on that matter. If Jake would just go to www.robertsrules.org he could read how the mtg is intended to be ran. The mayor is a true embarassment to me and all who love this city and want so badly for it to succeed.

Jake is the absolute weakest mayor this city has had in the last 100 years. By not standing up for his department heads he shows a complete lack of leadership. He hasn't been in control of any meeting since he took office and he has let Joyce and Ricky take over and lead Natchez with a racist agenda without one word from him. To answer like he did.."Maybe he is just having a bad day" shows the true coward that Jake is. If ever a mayor needs to be recalled it is this one. All he had to do was tell Joyce she was out of order and that screaming at a department head would not be tolerated while he is the mayor.

Democrats have taxed lge corporations and haven't given any business incentives to stop the move of all factories to other countries who do offer tax breaks. Unions at one time (the industrial revolution) certainly had their place. In todays' economy their is no place for unions and those who believe differently are blind to the fact that all manufacturing jobs that were union are going to be lost and only the middle class will suffer. In todays economy we are in a battle with foreign car makers who have moved their plants to the US and because of the American worker being the good worker they are they are enjoying success unmatched but...they are non-union and pay quite well.

Once again...Whatever Natchez has to do to placate a business we should do. Without a tax base we have nothing. Protect the historic district and relax ordinances outside of the district. We all want what is best for Natchez and we all want anyone in business to be successful. The land in question is hid from any street and won't hurt anyone ...it will only bring more people to Natchez and more revenue for all of us. Furthermore the sign ordinance is a joke..It inhibits businesses from advertising and should be revisited and updated to allow LDD and signs similar to Lambuths and other reader boards that are outside the historic district.

Unions have really proved their worth to the GM Ford etc today. Be sure and look at their stock today and see who is not asking for a bailout. I repeat..If the union had taken the offer from the German Co. IP would still be in business. Toyota, Nissan, and other car cos. that are non-union are thriving and as of the 1st of the yr they will probably be the only car mfg left.

Just a little hint..Did the city planner repeatedly cuss out fellow employees at the top of his voice in city hall...and was he repeatedly warned to stop screaming so loud that you could hear him downstairs in city hall? Had he had over 7 different jobs in the last 6 years?
On Arrogance left city planner-less
