I understand bankruptcy might give West Funeral Home an opportunity to restructure or whatever the case may be. However, the fact remains he doesn't have the funds that these consumers have paid for pre-arranged funerals. What are these people supposed to do when they die and have already paid West Funeral Home for a pre-arranged funeral. The last thing I recall being mentioned in the ND, he was still selling such plans. It's just not fair! Well, nd, you're right The Lord is in the plan and he will separate the right from the wrong; the just from the unjust. I'm a firm believer of that statement.

I know that quite a number of people are experiencing financial difficulties due to the state of the economy. But, what I don't happen to understand is, how and why West Funeral Home is still being allowed to be operational. The owner(s) have constantly made headlines for quite a number of wrongdoings and yet still they are operating and having funerals. They have made headlines for not having enough funds for the people who have paid for pre-arranged funerals and several other things that they have done to make headlines. I have nothing against successful black businesses; however, they seemed to have done so many wrongdoings and are still being allowed to operate. This is not fair because how are they going to be able for these people's funerals to be handled by them and they don't have the money that these customers spent on the pre-arranged funerals. Yet, everytime you turn around they're making headlines once again. It's not fair, it's just not fair.

I AGREE WITH ALL THE PREVIOUS COMMENT WRITERS. CABLE ONE'S SERVICE IS THE PITS. IF THE INTERNET SERVICE IS NOT DOWN, THEN THE CABLE IS OUT. WE PAY SO MUCH NOW FOR THE FEW CHANNELS THAT WE CURRENTLY HAVE AND THE TALK OF THEM TAKING MORE CHANNELS AWAY. THEY SHOULD GO DOWN ON THE PRICE. I THINK WE, THE ONES THAT HAVE CABLE ONE FOR CABLE NEED TO LOOK AT THE REAL PICTURE. WE ARE NOT GETTING THE CHANNELS WE SHOULD BE GETTING FOR THE PRICE WE ARE PAYING. I THINK WE NEED TO GET WITH OUR TOWN LEADERS AND TRY TO GET ANOTHER CABLE COMPANY IN HERE. WHEN I LIVED IN BATON ROUGE, I HAD FAR MORE CHANNELS THAN I HAVE HERE AND WAS PAYING $50 LESS THAN WHAT I PAY HERE. I DON'T LIKE THE FACT THAT THEY ARE GETTING RID OF THESE CHANNELS. WE REALLY NEED TO GET THE BALL ROLLING TO GET RID OF THEM AS OUR CABLE PROVIDER.

I agree with Fonzarosa. I am not saying the suspect was right for fleeing from the police officer. And no Fonzarosa we don't make our own laws over here in Vidalia. I thought I was right in my assumption that only if the suspect had a weapon and was firing at the police or had pulled such weapon and aimed the weapon at the police, that would have given the police officer the right to fire his weapon. Before it's all said and done, the officer will come out of this one smelling like a rose and the suspect will be locked down. Even though it was not in the direct vicinity of VJH, there are citizens that live in that area that could have been injured or killed by a stray bullet as Cedar Street intersects with John Dale Drive in which a lot of people use John Dale Drive to get to many streets and other places in Vidalia.

I don't agree with the burning it down suggestion. I do agree that something needs to be done about Danny's Lounge because this is not the first shooting that has taken place there. If I recall correctly, a patron was shot in the leg at Danny's Lounge. From what I understand, there are too many drug dealings going on there. To me, Danny's Lounge is becoming a nuisance and there should be laws to protect the citizens that live in that area or that patronize Danny's Lounge. The majority of the time when there are young people running a club or something like that, there always seems to be trouble. For example, Rawbone Records used to be run as a nightclub before it became Oscar's Place it was another nightclub that was run by a young adult and the patrons were very young adults, for example in their early twenties and there was always trouble there at that nightclub. However, when it became Oscar's Place, the patrons were older adults, in their mid 30s or early 40s or older and you didn't hear of all this trouble going at Oscar's Place. I also don't agree with the fact that a person under 21 should be able to patronize a nightclub because if they are under 21 and in that club with people that are old enough to purchase and drink alcoholic beverages, they're going to drink it too and to me there is too much underage drinking going on around here. I really feel they need to do something about Danny's Lounge before a senseless occurs there.

This is such a sad, tragic situation. Children are a precious gift from God. They don't ask to be born; that is a choice that is made by the mother mainly; if not made by the father. So many people in the world would love to be blessed with a child, but they either face fertility issues or some other health issues and are unable to have children. What could a baby or any child do in order to deserve such harm? I know that the mother cannot devote attention to a child 24 hours a day; but we need to be careful about the choices we make in life. We have to live with the bad choices as well as the good.

Is the river level correct in this article? Because I recall the level being at 56.3 on Wednesday night on KALB 5 newscast and I can't believe it has dropped two feet in a day. This article indicates the level is 54.6 or is this a transposal of the numbers?

First of all, I would like to say that my heart goes out to the families of the deceased. The names of these people sound so familiar. However, the person that said that Biglane Road is around Lake Concordia is wrong. Biglane is as a previous writer said it is off of Hwy 131 toward the airport.

With only a one-vote difference between the two candidates, there is no telling how many votes would have separated the two top candidates, had the other candidates not run for this office. I'm with Mr. Hendricks, the people have spoken and they have spoken well. It seems to me that the citizens of Vidalia want and voted for change. The more things change; the more they stay the same, at least that's what I've been told. The crime rate in Vidalia has increased tremendously and the ones that are committing the crimes are walking around everyday because when they go to court, all they receive is a slap on the wrist. Nearly every business on Carter street has been burglarized and the culprits have not been caught or if they have nothing has been published about whether or not they have been captured. Here in Vidalia, there is supposedly a noise ordinance prohibiting all that loud music from being played in these cars that pass by your home and I for one can truly say it is not being enforced because these cars pass by the police station playing the music equally as loud as they play it on the street where I live. If you call to complain about the loud noise, the officers that show up, they come flashing their blue lights giving the ones that are playing the music an opportunity to turn it off. To me, that's not enforcing the noise ordinance. I really hope these voters go back to the polls and vote in the run-off election. Vidalia's Police system of enforcing the law is broken and needs to be fixed.

I understand what some of you are saying in your comments. But this judging and name-calling is highly unnecessary. After all, I have had relatives that passed away and used West Funeral Home to handle the arrangements. Back when Bubber West's father was living and had that funeral home, it was a decent place as far as funeral arrangements were concerned. However, the last relative that I had to bury and let West Funeral Home handle the funeral arrangements, it was terrible. First of all, my relative had a burial policy that they had been in since 1965 and I had a money order receipt to show that this policy was paid ahead for several years and was told by Bubber that the policy had lapsed because of non-payment, which he was not supposed to collect more than twelve months' premiums at a time. To add insult to injury, he only gave us $450 for that policy on the funeral. Even worse than that, when the family car picked the family up and it was hotter in the car than it was outside. On top of that, my relative has been dead for almost four years now, and I still don't have the death certificates and when I requested them, Bubber faxed a copy to me. So, when you're speaking of unscrupulous business practices, this takes the cake. To each his own, but whoever you are TBall, you need to speak only of what you know and stop the name-calling because I'm sure the ones that are trying to judge in this column, you probably have a few skeletons in your closet that you haven't been brought out. If I had not mentioned to my life insurance agent about the fact that he had collected these premiums so far in advance, Bubber would have really gotten over on my family in our time of grief. So, speak only of what you know. Too many consumers are paying through the nose for crooks to continue to be crooks. It's not fair!! It's just not fair!! If you have any kind of sense, you better let Marshall Funeral Home or Concordia Funeral Home handle your loved ones funeral arrangements or you might be stuck like who Chuck.
