The amount of money you would have to pay to satisfy a for-profit hospital bill or a not-for-profit hospital bill would be about the same. If for-profits charged more they could not stay in business. The deal is they run their business like a business and not as a patronage center.
As for Southwest in McComb I have one answer to that idea and it is, Norman Price. He is intelligent and very dedicated to Southwest Mississippi Health Systems and SWRMC is lucky to have him.

Did Cooper think this guy was coming in and tell NRMC they were doomed? It's smoke and mirrors folks! Is Cooper this easily mislead? As always, question the source and the data.

Did NRMC have 17 RNs too many? The loss of 17 primary caregivers automatically impacts the quality of care. Who do they think their fooling?

dixiecrat, Field Memorial Hospital in Centerville is run by Quorum. This little hospital seems to be doing just fine. The problem is not all one person or even one group of people. Somebody needs to make some decisions and fast! If NRMC does not get approval for bankruptacy and I think there is maybe a 50-50 chance of that happening. Bankruptacy is not the complete answer anyway. WHAT ARE THEY GOING TO DO?

NRMC needs to think about how hard it's going to be to get those thosands of dollars worth supplies that are required to run a hospital even for a day. If they take bankruptacy vendors are NOT going to lining up to sell them anything on credit especially if their are no signs of a significant change it leadership. Just thought I would throw that out there. No use pointing fingers, what's done is done. Somebody needs to think of how the healthcare needs of this community are going to be met. There are a lot of people here that can't drive a hundred miles for healthcare. I am sure there is A solution to the whole thing and somebody needs to be taking some action SOON.

I am sorry that I have to disagree with Carrie. Natchez can no longer easily support two hospitals. The only way it could is to raise taxes to support one of them. NRMC of course. The population might have increasesd but the private medical insurance base has decreased leaving mostly Medicare and Medicaid neither of which pay very much now. I would venture to guess that if you could check the patients in the both hospitals probably 85% of them would only have Medicaid or Medicare. Sorry, folks no private or not for profit hospital system is going to rush to Natchez to bail NRMC out with that kind of patient base. HMA most likely would not be on the scene if they did not already have a presence in Natchez. The people who are supposed to be control of NRMC have run it in the ground. I am afraid they are going to find themselves stuck holding the bag. NOBODY is going to rush to bail them out, especially if they think these same people that ran NRMC in the ground are going to continue interfering with the operation of the hospital. Everyone seems to think that NRMC will correct its self and everything will return to normal. That may happen this time, who knows. I do beleive that medical care in Natchez is going to have to change but whether it will be this time, I don't know. I do know that a lot has been said and writen by a lot of people that know less about what they are talking about than I do and I don't know much but I know a lot of what I have read and heard is unbeleivable. Is it due to ignorance of the subject or intentionally misleading I don't know. I do know it is UNBELEIVABLE. If this problem is going to be fixed some people are going to have to swallow their pride and admit they made a lot of mistakes. If the powers that be let their egos interfere, NRMC is doomed, maybe not this time but sooner or later DOOMED. Ain't no knight in shining armor comin' folks!

Hear Ye! Hear Ye! Let's not do anything about the mismanagement, patronage and inefficiency of our county owned hospital. Let's just raise taxes and let the hospital throw away some more money. Only this time it's going to be the money of the hard working, law abiding, TAX PAYING! citizens of Adams County. DON'T LET IT HAPPEN ADAMS COUNTY TAXPAYERS! Once they start this it will be ever increasing and never ending, no matter what they say. I knew it was coming. First they blame everything and everybody. They never admit to their own inadequacy. Then they want somebody else to bail them out. What a mess! Do you want a bunch of polictians to buy votes with your tax money by handing out a bunch of do-nothing jobs at NRMC? If you do let them raise your taxes. NRMC will be a bottomless pit for your tax dollars.

On Hospital wants tax hike

Every hospital has to give care that they are not compensated for. Expenses (salaries, supplies, etc.) have to be controled in order for the hospital to remain financially stable. Every hospital has an espoused mission which is good patient care but, that mission cannot become an enacted mission without money. Apparently NRMC failed to remember this important rule therefore endangering what should be their true mission. As I have stated in an earlier post. Healthcare is too complicated to be run by a county government. Mismanagement and patronage will put any organization in the same boat as NRMC.

It is a sad story but, quiet true. County hospitals all over the country are suffering the same problems as NRMC.
I don't have all the answers but, I think that the time has passed when county governments need to be in the healthcare business. The healthcare business is a very tough business to be in at this time. Billing for healthcare is very difficult. You don't just send a bill to Medicare, Medicaid or any private insurance company and get a check in a few days. Every i has to be dotted and t crossed. As to the comments that some other organization might buy NRMC. Why would they when NRMC has all this debt and I bet that this is just the tip of the iceberg concerning their debt.
