Can someone tell me why the Democrat even chose to do this article. It seems so random. It's not like it is an anniversary or something.

What is the news here? Please someone tell me.

Thanks for the comments Say It. I agree -- some give and take is needed. I want Fat Mama's downtown.

Ldy Breez,

I have lived and worked in Atlanta. Those fans on the roof on Fat Mama's would have been a violation to in the downtown preservation district there. They would have been required to have been screened and they certainly would not have been allowed to add them without approval.

Yall make it sound that Natchez is the only place with such laws... Look at Madison, Mississippi, it has much stricter laws than Natchez and it is going like gang busters - Look at Oxford, it planning dept. can;t keep up with the number of condos being built.

If those two towns are any indication, preservation laws don't hurt a town they in fact attract people who care about where they live and what it looks like. And believe it or not, those people have money.

Or maybe we can be like Fayette, Bude, Hazlehurst - yeah they are prospering towns everybody hears about.

If you build in downtown Natchez, you should abide by the law -- period. It's not as if laws were made up - they have been on the books for years.

It's a little like underage drinking, smoking one joint isn't eagle. It doesn't harm anybody even if it is against the law. Right? Everyone else does it.

On Campaign signs may foretell future

"Before I would cast dispersions on the candidates, I think I would look at my own staff and daily product. Seems to me that the paper might encourage its personnel to bush up on Grammar 100, Spelling 100 and Math 100."

It is amazing to me how the commenters who criticize the Democrat for misspellings can't even spell correctly in their own comments criticizing the paper. I believe that is "brush" up not "bush" up Gary. I guess we all make mistakes, don't we? Or should we discount your opinion because you can't spell.

Gary,
It didn't happen four years ago when parents ousted the superintendent, what makes you think it will happen this time. Look at the revolving door of principals at each one of the schools and tell me how those changes have made parents take responsibility. It just doesn't happen that way.

We all want change. I just think we are a little misguided if we think we have no responsibility in this (which is the attitude of most parents unforunately). When was the last time you attended a PTA meeting, school board meeting, etc. Gary. I have been to many of them over the last year. You?

You can change the chess pieces all you want, until the parents become the stakeholder and take responsibility, the results will remain the same.

No offense DSGB, but if the ND was trying to withhold information to make Morris look, then I don't think they would have run the front page articles about the Committee for Better Public Schools did.
