there are many issues involved in this case that cannot be publicized at this time because of ongoing investigations and now the lawsuit. Suffice it to say that there is enough evidence to warrant taking a long look at what happened. And the behavior of the husband AFTER the death certainly did not help his cause. Hopefully, when all is said and done, this will finally be over and Dr. Palmer can rest in peace. In the meantime, please keep her friends and family in your prayers....they are all still suffering.

there is an appointment to be made by the Alderman for the school board. James Coleman's appointment ( the one Matilda Stephens took) ended in March. I have heard that Mrs. Stephens has offered to step down and to let the Board of Aldermen appoint someone else since there are several new members...what better candidate than a former employee. I say Dr. Barnett needs to be appointed- he knows what's REALLY going on in the district.

My daughter played tournament ball too and it costs us anywhere from $200-$300 a weekend for most of the summer....hotel rooms, concessions, meals, etc. My wife insisisted on going shopping in every city. We spent plenty of money in places like Meridian, Brandon, Oxford, and Monroe. The great thing about this type of tourism industry is that you will ALWAYS have consumers...Natchez has missed millions of dollars in revenue by not building the complex 10 years ago. Its time to get it done. Jake was the Recreation Chairman- hopefully this can be one of his significant achievements as mayor.

On If you build it, will they come?

Good choice, UW. I have heard only good things about Ms. Colson and know she will do a fine job. Thanks for all you do for the local agencies. Speaking of agencies that are rip-offs, you should be careful who you donate to. You can easily check out a non-profit through the Secretary of State's office. If they are top-heavy in "adminstrative" positions, the $$ you give are probably not going where you think they are. Be selective....

did you attend the Open House Bonzo? If you had, you would have heard her give ALL the credit to her staff....she is not the kind of person that believes anything is accomplished alone. What the reporter chose to print from the interview with her is not in her control. But I have heard her speak at civic groups many times and she has always said that it takes teamwork to be successful.

hopefully other childcare agencies who are currently dealing with special needs kids will refer them to Kyle's House. This isn't about $$, it's about who can offer the best services to these special kids.

United Way's funding to their agencies have benefited hundreds of men, women, and children in the Miss-Lou. The negative comments that have been posted in previous articles totally disregard the impact that they may be having on funding for these agencies. In some cases, the United Way funding is critical to operate. Former employees who are disgruntled are not reliable sources for what goes on at this agency. My wife works for an agency that receive this funding and her agency would have to reduce services to needy families if their United Way funding was cut. Please think about the impact of the words you write and find out the TRUTH before you comment on it!

On United Way is still a strong agency

and aonther thing....our new mayor has stated publicly that the public school system is not the mayor's responsibility...with three of the five appointees, who does he think is responsible? Also, Ms. Stephens' term ended in March (she took James Coleman's place)...if he plans on appointing someone else, it needs to be someone who is OBJECTIVE about our current administration.

I find it very interesting that some of the bloggers on this website seem to be using this forum as their "moment in the sun". Sam...you have always had an opinion about something, you have spent your entire life trying to be uncoventional, so why not jump in the political arena? The "kingdom" you have here is very small....you are destined for much greater things. I look forward to seeing you at all the aldermen meetings, the school board meetings, etc. You obviously are not just a bystander...we need your type to present their face at meetings to shake things up.

Also, on the issue of who secured the grants, most of the city funding that is grant-related can be attributed to Brett Brinegar, the city's grantwriter who is responsible for millions of dollars coming into the city. She is by far the most valuable asset in city government.
