No need to worry about the Gitmo detainees. Heard yesterday on Fox that it's virtually a done deal that they will go to a facility in Alexandria, VA.

What is the deal with all the talk about "missing money"? The hospital was MISMANAGED and that's very different from embezzlement or "under the table" deals. Mr. Phillips has done a great job of getting things "uprighted" as much as possible and has worked hard on getting the county the best deal possible. That's what he was brought in to do. Contract negotiations are very seldomn revealed and because of the confidentiality clause in the deal neither Mr. Phillips nor the supervisors are at liberty to reveal details while it is ongoing. It's just burning y'all up because you can't get the gossip!

dixiemama - Read the article again. The man (Foster) who HIT the motorcyclist (Mitchell) and killed him escaped unharmed and actually fled the scene. They reported that Foster was driving under the influence - not the motorcyclist who was pronounced dead on the scene.

Sounds like the old "right hand not knowing what the left hand is doing". Everyone needs to abandon their own personal agendas and get together. Seems the key here is communication. Since Phillips was brought in to "right the hospital", he should have been included in ALL meetings. Maybe if he had been there, the Board of Supervisors wouldn't have to be backpedaling because they have already interviewed consultants and, evidently, that was supposed to be left up to Phillips. I was also under the impression that "legal counsel" to help maneuver through the bankruptcy process had already been retained ~ but the article today says the Board is going to hire Butler Snow as legal counsel. Just who is in charge here OR are there way too many chiefs and not enough indians? Definitely time for a "pow wow"!

EnKiKur - If you want to talk to Bland so badly please e-mail him directly instead of using the discussion board.

Are you kidding me? If this in some way would benefit the town of Ferriday that might be a different matter, but this is the stupidest proposal I have ever heard. I can't believe it was even brought to a vote and I don't blame whats-his-name for walking out of the meeting when this was put up for a vote. All of them should have walked out except, of course, for Mrs. Lloyd and Mayor Allen - the interested parties.
On Should the town of Ferriday pay Mayor Gene Allen's way to Las Vegas for a pageant?

ericstratton - The information comes from a nurse that currently works at NRMC who said they were told yesterday that on Monday there would be layoffs and the employees would be told then who was being laid off. I'm sure the news made for a great weekend for the employees. Not gossip - if I didn't completely trust the source I wouldn't repeat it.

Someone please explain to me..........how does this effect the Natchez project? Why is the tribe upset about the Natchez casino? I guess I'm just dumb, but this needs an explanation. Anybody know?

Seems as though one of the CEOs is taking the lead. There will be layoffs announced Monday. Don't know how extensive the layoffs will be, but they're coming! How sad when the inevitable finally happens. We all knew it was coming and here it is!

Sounds to me like the old game of "traveling physicians" whereby a "clinic" situation is set up for the docs to come to Natchez a certain number of times during the month. After all, there is limited space in the doc's pavilion ~ certainly not enough for 20 or 30 PERMANENT physicians to practice ~ and nowhere else in Ntz for that many physicians to set up practice. Yes, the deal would bring specialists here, but who is to say that they won't "route" the patients back to Ochsner? That's always been the problem in the past with this type of arrangement. Can't imagine what other type of venture (research project?) would bring doctors to this area on a permanent basis. Guess the details won't be revealed until the "deal" falls through.
On NRMC may team up with Ochsner Hospital
