mskitty YES I did sell it for the good of Vidalia like everyone else who had their family land taken thru eminent domain. We all saw the plans and loved the prospect even though the plans were not followed. And what is the difference in Hyram hiring all his friends and their kids for city jobs and the hydro employing some of the Murray family. Bottom line I'm for Murray ur for Copeland...enough said.

Hi theduke, hydro money is put in general fund and a percent used for city employees payroll, equipment etc rather than used to offset the cost of energy used by Vidalia. Adjust the percentage that goes out for city expenses and put more into the percent used to offset energy expense thus decreasing energy cost to the consumer. Not a CPA but that is how I understand it. So what would 33% of 1 million be to offset our utility cost?

Hi mskitty, yes I live in Vidalia and have for 25+ years and I even own a business here and employee people in this area. Been involved in allot... recreation, chamber, Vidalia public schools, civic committees etc. Even sold my property on for the riverfront for pennies on the dollar for the good of Vidalia. Just because someone does not agree with you does not make a comment negative it simply makes it a difference of opinion. I'm simply tired of my bills going up and seeing the elderly suffer, look around we have allot of elderly in Vidalia. I like Hyram and Bill but I’m tired of jumping into projects without thinking them thru and the people being left with the bills. Nothing negative just good sound business sense. So down girl down. lol

GO BILL, we need a change. We need lower utilities and not a ton of city employees that do only one job. Change is going to occur regardless of who is mayor. It would be nice if the taxpayers weren't left holding the bag for things that can't survive on their own merit.

since when has anyone in vidalia goverment been worried about wasting the taxpayers money...

Wow sounds like VILOU must be one of the mayor’s employees that ride around and pull in the nice salary. I for one am sick and tired of the rising utilities in Vidalia; I’m ready for a change. As far as the article it is all about teamwork not self-glory... well I see very little teamwork here. You focus on small steps in order to accomplish a great task not what one-person gains. Check the stats our people are suffering due to people not doing their homework on projects before they jump in headfirst and we're left to pay for the mess when it can't support itself. Yeah the riverfront looks great while people run around with sweaters on because they can't afford their utility bills... yeah we're really a city on the move. We move so we don't freeze our butts off.

Ntz has always had a problem with downtown parking. It is not being lazy that I want to park close. First I have a large vehicle and it is difficult to park in small spaces. Second I don't want my vehicle broken into and if I have to park in an out of the way parking lot are way away from the store I fear no one will notice strange happenings around my vehicle. Third with the rash of purse snatchings I was trying to not become a victim by walking with my purse long distances. As a matter of fact I usually try to go with someone else so they can let me out and make the block then pick me up. Yes you have a problem and I wish there was better parking so I could shop longer and not worry about my vehicle the entire time. The other problem you have is people not knowing how to parallel park can't tell you how many times I’ve seen the light bump to another cars front and rear while they try to squeeze in. As far as meters that would still not solve the problem and I for one would stop going downtown all together

For all you who don't live in Vidalia let me clarify the meaning of "Utility rates falling in Vidalia" = election year. We do all kinds of wonderful things prior to the election then after, in typical Louisiana style, we go back to the same old thing. If we get lower rates it will be for only a short time then we hire more city employees or buy new city vehicles. Between the Sheriffs office and the City of Vidalia I would venture to bet they employee more than any other business in this area.

Shilo park in Jackson stopped hosting alot of tournaments, because they simply keep losing money on them. Shilo has 26 fields, softball and baseball and they couldn't make money off tournaments and they are centrally located... look before you leap. This is great for local recreation but don't count on money from tournaments its just not realistic. The structure of Tourn. ball makes the organizing body money ASA, USSSA NSA etc not the local sponsor.

Mskitty, yes you need to look up your info. The town of Vidalia was originally close to or on the matt field, more less the other side of the levee. Then the entire town was moved behind the levee, which was built using local Vidalia family soil thus forming the barrow pits that run beside the levee. As a matter of fact, the mayor was none other than Mr. George A. Murray at the time. He got with other business owners and paid to have the town moved, I think in the 1920's r 1930's, people living in that area retained ownership and the corps of engineers used it much like the levee today. Ownership was never transferred and when the corps left the matt field it returned to the ownership of the original owner just like the old railroad right away that have now reverted back to the original families. My family has been in Vidalia since late 1800's. As a matter of fact if it wasn't for those old vidalians moving the town none of us would be living over here, we would be in the middle of the Mississippi river...
