I guess I'll get deleted for saying this and I'm sorry for getting personal, but I can't help myself. Only an idiot would call for a boycott of our financially troubled hospital when it needs our help the most. Reminds me of the unions helping put Fidelity Tire and IP out of business just because they could.

Anyone who has ever worked closely with the hospitals and physicians in Natchez will understand the courage it takes for Dr. Ken Stubbs to oppose the status quo here in the medical community. He doesn't have to do this, but he sincerely wants to assure that we have the best quality medical care in Natchez. You might be surprised at the number of quality doctors who have been discouraged from practicing in Natchez...by a number of the local, established doctors. We better stand behind Ken and support Natchez Regional. We're not trying to save healthcare in Natchez...we're having to rebuild it to what it once was.

I am a strong supporter of community cooperation and worked on C of C boards for a number of years, including the time we were asked to leave a joint economic development meeting by a neighboring LA town's board because they didn't want to work with us at that time. This is different, though. What's at stake here is the quality of healthcare in this area. Promise does a good job, but I guarantee you when your family has a car wreck one night and needs emergency surgery, you won't get it on the levee in Vidalia. Now you won't get it but 2 nights a week in Natchez. We need doctors here asap, and the only way to get them here is to create a competent healthcare community for them to work in, and whether we agree or not, we'll most likely have to offer them perks like office space and salary guarantees until they get established. So far, the doctors who are fighting for us are getting unduly criticized in this forum. Look back to what we used to have in this community, benefitting both sides of the river, and look what our inept actions have done to what was once a thriving, capable healthcare delivery system, and building 2 hospitals to draw away our limited funding was certainly not done in a spirit of cooperation. Planning for Riverpark Medical Center was done before the malpractice crisis (which did take away a number of our doctors) and took probably 90%+ of the outpatient procedures from Natchez Regional. I'm not trying to be negative, I strongly support working together, but I've seen the negative changes happening to our healthcare, and the political finger pointing going on between boards, and it scares me for all of us. One of us is going to find themselves in a situation where a family member needs immediate care which won't be available here and find there isn't time to go out of town.

The Natchez-Adams County Chamber of Commerce should support Natchez Regional. More money which could support our hospital is going out of town. Normally it's good to support our neighbors, but these Louisiana facilities compete directly with us for our limited funds and do not augment us. Natchez needs to wake up and look at our dangerous healthcare situation.

The Democrat should have used "competent" in place of "cheaper". Looking back over the last 25 - 30 years what is happening now was predicted by many, but ignored by government. People should wise up and quit bashing Dr Ken Stubbs, who sincerely wants a quality hospital to survive, and stop supporting the Vidalia hospital founded by the real culprit doctors who weren't satisfied with just their share of the revenues, they also wanted, and got, the hospital's share of outpatient procedure revenues, which was Natchez Regional's profit line.
The Board of Supervisors should appoint a competent Board of Directors, then stay out of their way; the Board of Directors should hire a competent Administrator, set a budget for him, then get out of his way and make their only job funding the hospital; so he can manage day to day operations without answering to 20 bosses and can focus on competing with Natchez Community, recruiting needed doctors and recruiting patients.
We were at this point once before government, local and federal, screwed it up.

This seems like a good opportunity to test consolidation by appointing the Natchez Police Chief as Interim Sheriff. This has worked well in Jackson, largely owing to the abilities of the appointed Chief/Sheriff. Natchez/Adams County would benefit from consolidation if we could get past the political bickering and turf protection.

Taking this money will prove to be a big mistake. Sit back and watch the deals get made.

Another example of government's ability to run a business. You ain't seen nothing yet.

In fairness to Judge Blough, the papers were on his desk because they had been returned to him as Unable to Serve. The Hinds County Sheriff's Department was also unable to serve them. The judge spent a lot of time talking to people in Hinds trying to get the papers served, which a judge normally is not expected to do. Tom Vaughn has lost his medical license and is hunkered down behind his wall. When the judge originally signed the papers his job was done, but he's still involved in trying to get Tom Vaughn served.
