I agree with your 8:46 p.m. post, CB. I believe welfare should fulfill a need (ideally temporary in most cases).

I believe life skill classes for young children would be a good investment toward that goal. I am sure you know that learning appropriate behavior is difficult when you have no good role models in your life.

A job must be available before one can work. Now there's an original thought.

But if they went to work it would ruin the republican practice of scapegoating welfare recipients for most of our country's problems.

The republicans would then be left with just trying to manufacture lame excuses for people who want to vote republican but whose circumstances certainly don't justify it (read: they are not worth over $5 million) - i.e. that the government is going to get involved with their social security and medicare - AND that they are only safe with presidents who yell "BRING 'EM ON".

CB, I was able, on my own, to make the distinction between childhood (I agreed with you when I said "yeah") and professional sports (Note: After "Yeah", I said "and"; then stated my OWN belief about professional sports "entitlements" and asked if you agreed).

Regarding inner city crime rates, do you think there's a possibility the crime rates would be even higher if the welfare payments were not made? I don't know. I don't like welfare any more than you do. But we need to do something more than complain about it. Anybody can do that.

Yeah, CB, and those tax funded professional sports stadiums are a real boom to "free enterprise", aren't they?

Are you saying that welfare is a cause of high homicide rates in inner cities?

CB, there are also laws against fraud, including welfare fraud.

CB, we have to pay for:

Costs of imprisonment for DUI offenders.
Lost time at work.
Welfare for families whose breadwinner is in jail/prison.
Medical costs for uninsured/underinsured people injured in accidents caused by
DUI offenders.
Cost of attorneys for indigent offenders.
Cost of court proceedings.
Cost of law enforcement court time.
Costs of vehicles demolished in accidents.
Increased health/life/automobile insurance costs.

LOSS OF LIFE.
LOSS OF QUALITY OF LIFE DUE TO INJURIES.

Maybe we should increase tax on the consumpton of alcohol.

If we are to have a decent, civilized society, I believe we must be strong enough to speak up in spite of threats of revolution on all sides. Take your pick - welfare people revolution, tea party people revolution, whatever.

I wonder how the costs of the effects of drunk driving stack up against the costs of welfare abuse. Both are detestable, don't you think?

CB, we need to get this health care thing going. If you know someone who is abusing the welfare system, I suggest you report them straightaway. I don't support abusers of any kind, power or otherwise.

CB, yeah, sure, IF it's ok with you that the people in this country who are not fortunate enough to work at a job where they are covered by health insurance (which EVERYONE helps pay for when they buy the company product) just suffered and died without benefit of health care.
