A federal agent in Mississippi was charged Thursday in Baton Rouge for the alleged theft of approximately $100,000 from a trucking and logistics company owned by Capitol City Produce Co.

William T. Ferrell III, 41, of Gulfport, Miss., is a marine interdiction agent for U.S. Customs and Border Protection within the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Assistant U.S. Attorney Lyman E. Thornton III said in a written statement.

Thornton said the theft charge carries a possible penalty of 10 years in federal prison.

Ferrell could not be reached Thursday. A recording said his residential phone is disconnected or is no longer in service.

A Baton Rouge firm, Double F. Logistics, sued Ferrell in federal court Thursday, alleging Ferrell admitted a year ago he had used a debit card to make unauthorized purchases and cash withdrawals from the firm’s account.

Capitol City Produce Co. of Baton Rouge took a 51 percent ownership interest in Double F when it was formed in 2005, according to the civil suit. And Double F provides scheduling and logistical support for Capitol City’s transport of fresh produce.

The criminal charge against Ferrell notes that Double F. Logistics had four semi-tractor trailers to haul that produce.

Double F’s civil suit alleges Ferrell stole more than $104,000 from the firm before he was confronted by company officials.

The criminal case has been assigned to the court of U.S. District Judge Ralph E. Tyson.

Thornton said it was investigated by the FBI, DHS’ Office of Inspector General, and CBP’s Office of Internal Affairs.

DUNCAN PARK IS LARGER THAT IT LOOKS... THEY HAVE PLENTY OF ROOM ONCE SOME MORE LAND THAT IS THERE IS CLEARED AWAY. ALSO, A FEW MILLION OR SO DOLLARS WOULD GO A LONG WAY IN BUILDING HIGH CLASS BLEACHERS, REST ROOMS, ETC. AT ALL THE EXISTING BALL FIELDS AND TENNIS COURTS..POOL FACILITIES COULD BE EXPANDED AND UPDATED. THE GOLF COURSE AND CLUB HOUSE COULD BE COMPLETELY RENIVATED....NICE RESTROOMS IN THE CLUB HOUSE,,,LOUNGE, BAR, RECREATION ROOM FOR YOUNG PEOPLE,,,,COUCHES,,ETC... REST ROOMS ON THE COURSE. WATER FALLS ON SOME HOLES,,, FLOWERS, ETC...ORGANIZE LARGE TOURNAMENTS,ETC.... TAKE AND USE WHAT WE HAVE THERE....INSTEAD OF SPENDING 60 OR SO MILLION DOLLARS ON NEW COMPLEX, JUST SEVERAL MILLION AT DUNCAN PARK CAN GO A LONG WAY IN IMPROVEMENTS AND PLEASE "DO NOT USE THESE OVER PRICED CONTRACTORS " UNLESS THEY GIVE YOU A FAIR AND REASONABLE BID.........SO MUCH CAN BE DONE ON LAND AT DUNCAN PARK FOR FAR LESS MONEY THAT STARTING A NEW COMPLEX FOR THE GROUND UP......PERIOD....
