38 years! That he stayed more than 30, or even 25, indicates a rare and unselfish dedication. I know he will be missed.

MOM39120 is right. Comments are often posted that are insensitive and judgemental, considering the ND doesn't have room to print but just the basic details of the situation. There's just not enough information in this story to cause anyone who reads it to pass judgement on the family involved. If they're decent people they're probably kicking themselves hard enough already and don't need your help. It's an article about a death. People, be sensitive to the survivors.

Thanks for rephrasing fire39212. It is SO much clearer now. Obviously you weren't just typing anything and everything that came into your mind all at once without giving any thought to whether it made sense or not. And yes I have DRIVEN (not DROVE) down the streets of Natchez. Asandbb22, good point.

Fire39212 urges Natchez to do some road work and complains about the road work they're doing in the same breath. But it sure is great what Concordia Parish is doing! Bizarre.

I have known of some agencies that switched to 4-tens from 5-eights to "conserve," but I've observed that the ten is usually more like nine, from arrival to departure, and there's probably more like eight actually being accomplished. I think the 4-tens sounds good as a theory, but ends up being a waste in practice. The best thing they could do is park non-emergency vehicles at the agency lot overnight and on weekends. If they really get a call on the weekend to go inspect something, and it's really inconvenient to go back to the office to get the car, they can request mileage. Most agencies still allow for that even if they have vehicles available for their employees to use. I don't know what McCain, Obama, or P. Diddy have to do with the article.

You are right freedom42. Overall, the knowledge and skills transferred to the students in the NASD is disappointing. And most, not all, of the kids don't care. I'd put the small group of kids that do care against their counterparts at the local non-public schools any day of the week.

Although I'm aggravated that the exercise of criticizing the public schools is so popular that the kids excelling get virtually ignored, and when they are noticed their parents get the credit, as if there's no teaching going on in the NASD, I do agree that the large number of kids who don't care is a serious problem. I do not believe that the problem is with the Superintendent, any more than I believe that the solution is going to come from or even be aided by Dr. Wright's committee. Unless of course Dr. Wright's committee is going to go out into the neighborhoods where the problem kids are coming from and work from the ground up. I hope if they do that they don't use such pretentious language as Dr. Wright used in this particular piece of journalism.

EnKiKur, in this case I believe the county saves money because the unit prices in the existing contract will be lower than if they bid the parking lot separately. But for the most part I agree, the trend to bypass receiving bids seems to be rising, and it's disconcerting.

I know a class of 09 senior at Natchez High, made over 30 on the ACT. Yep, no real teaching or learning going on there.
