I've got to hand it to VPD on this one.. I was at the riverwalk that night when all of that was taking place and it wasn't a big ordeal or anything. I never even saw cop cars. I just got a call from a friend who was at the restaurant. She told me, and those i was with, what happened and told us to get out of there PRONTO. We did, but we still never saw any squad cars....

haha... junkyard and frog-- I love reading the paper online! I'm doing the same as you guys and catching up on my current events (no time for it before school) and there's nothing else to do in my online classes sometimes, and I have quite a few hours of those in a day's time.
But really, is my having internet access in class more of a worry to ya'll than in-school violence and local street crime?
Wow, talk about getting your priorities straight...

Yes, but it's sad that it had to finally come to this. Its sad that we actually had to enlist the help of our town's police officers to highthen the level of security around here... a lowly little high school in small-town Vidalia. What IS this world coming to??

myo, I'm wondering the same thing... But its an ongoing problem here... like
I wouldnt be surprised if we ended up with the same amount of publicity as Jena has had this year.

This is so ridiculous!!
I actually go to Vidalia High School, and I'm sitting in class at this very moment. About 30 minutes ago, I walked onto the school campus, where I saw 2 police men, fully dressed in their uniforms. I asked why they were there, and the duty teacher said "for protection". How sad is that?
Since about 3 or 4 years ago, the "uptown-downtown" mess has gotten kinda out of hand. The kids involved allow the school to act as a medium, and they settle their problems there. What first started out as what seemed like innocent "labels" ("where does he/she live?" "oh, she/he's from DOWNTOWN") has blown up into "gang related violence"... Well I'm here to tell everyone, its not in any way gang related. Its just disputes over turf, and its totally childish.
I just wish it would all stop. Our school functions are being cancelled because of these fights. I'm tired of hearing about it at school; we come here to learn, not to live in fear.

I was friends with both these boys... this is still so unreal. I guess that goes to show you that anything you would think is impossible is always possible..

oh boo! you sure are a hum-bug, arent you? The city officials don't really enforce those "laws" on occasions like that because everyone is supposed to enjoy it in good spirit. I suggest you go out right now, brod, and buy yourself a big ole bag of water dynamite and have yourself a ball! May you have a blessed New Year, and for the sake of your poor neighbors.... lighten up!!
