My final post on all this. Sorry it has gone so far.

See things for what they are. See people for what they are. And see ourselves for what we are. Be realistic.

And the numbers of people that have been hurt, offended, snubbed or harrased at NLT is alarming. Have you ever stopped to count how many? And more than 1 is scary. Now trace these people back to the person that they had conflict with. Again, I could understand maybe a couple, but for all of these people, thew common denominator is Layne.

Layne is a funny, charming, smiling guy. But a borderline personality disorder forces him to perceive ANYONE who does not agree with him as his mortal enemy, and one that must be bad- mouthed, alienated and removed.Behavior such as is displayed by him should never be tolerated ANYWHERE!! Name me the porkplaces that would love to have a manager be so rude to people.
And not just ones down there- I could name you businesses in town that he has shown similiar behavior at that don't want him walking in their door anymore.
Good luck to "Best Little......". But savor the moment. Because one disagreement can bring an end to you, too, at NLT.

I NEVER made the claim to NOT see any of the shows at NLT. You need to reread every posting I have ever made, and it will substantiate what I just said. I DO go see the shows- every one of them, to be exact- and I grade them according to scale. I observe not only the quality of the show in general, but also the reactions and attitude of the audience. In fact, I would love to write up honest reviews of ALL area shows for the Democrat. But, .. I digress.

I have a bachelors in music education, and studied extensively with theater in college, also. I have been active with 3 community playhouses over my lifetime, and have directed plays and musicals in all 3 venues.

Yes, I dislike the immorality of those "evil" people that are still running around. But, whereas we can all agree as to the status of being "evil" as these perpetrators are, ( mainly because it is obvious), the really slick players manage to hide in the shadows and win friends by lies, deceit, and false flattery.

I will not go into detail about what I know about NLT and the pervs that operate it. Space does not permit. However, where there is smoke, there is fire, and if you look at the number of people that have become victims of Layne at NLT, there is certainly reason to suspect that "things are not alright"

I bear this one case.

In a write- up about the musical "Fauntleroy", Layne lauds the talents of the musicaL director for that show, Donna Schaeffer. I am paraphrasing a bit, but he says " musical direction is by the incredible Donna Schaeffer" Pretty high words!! Layne was happy!! Woo- hoo!!!

Now, Ms Schaeffer is a Layne victim. She has been cast aside and is spoken fiercely about She is no longer at NLT. Why?? Wasn't she "incredible"? Why would the theater shun such an asset as her?

Tell you why. She ran afoul of Layne. She is yet another victim.

There are tons of other stories, but I will stop.
Your rebuttal, please? What are your qualifications, and what about this story?

Sophie, I love the way you get riled up when someone does not agree with your views. Tell me- are you a liberal? What is YOUR degree in theater? Where else have you performed? Are you a teacher? Did you attend or act in shows before Layne? How come you refuse to see him for what he is, and how he has run people out of the theater, and kept people out who threaten his empire? ( Should we ask Glatzer, Jones, Zerby, Roboski, Cook, Moak, White, Little- the list could go on and on!)

He is a sick puppy, with a borderline personality disorder- in short, he is wonderful and always right, but if you disagree with him, you are satan and have to be disposed of.

Ask Layne sometime about his experiences with The Burn, or the Music Festival, and about how he tried to take it over because HE had all the experience to run it! What a joke!

So, you show me yours, and I'll show you mine.

And as a response- the theater was doing even better before Layne grabbed control. Southern Exposure and Medicine Show played to packed- out houses with tourists from-- (drum roll , please)-- ALL OVER THE WORLD!!!!

Yep, before Layne!!! WOW!

How could stupid Natchezians run theior own theater and make it a success before Taylor????? Unimaginable!!!

Man, some of you are so blinded by that man, and you are all so oblivious to the lack of professionalism that is evidenced at NLT. It is truly sad. You are performing for your own vanity, and trust me--- most of you Laynites that perform down there couldn't set foot on another stage, like in Vicksburg, Baton Rouge, Covington, Baker, Pike County.

AHHHH!! A Laynite!!!!

Whatever happened to the good ole days when you didn't have to worry that the perves at NLT were going to keep forcing obscene and disgusting shows at the populus!
Sweeney Todd. La Cage aux Folles. Deathtrap. On and on. Gays are always wanting to force their (lack of) morals down the collective throats of the citizens.

And if NLT is doing such a great job of providing what the public wants to see, why do they have such a low membership? Back in the 90's, the membership peaked to well over 1,000. And don't say it is the economic times- according to Layne, the Arts thrive and blossum during tough economic times.

Dwight is 18? Great! But I think the point is that they knew that this material is not suitable for younger audiences, hence the age limit of 18. Seems that he is still in high school, though, and that seems to be the cut- off age they were referring to.

Bring back the quality days of NLT. Good singers, good actors, and terrific sets. Not the crap they want to charge 15 bucks for. Save your money and go see a movie.

And to charge $15 to see this past year's version of A Natchez Christmas Carol!!?? Wow- NLT should have paid people to come see it. I saw it. I saw people walk out of it. The audience would sit in stunned silence at the end of a song or a scene UNTIL Layne would start clapping and whooping from the light booth to try to incite the audience to respond. Sad. Layne even asked some young people to sit amongst the audience to clap and yell to try to get some response going. Dude- it STANK!!!!!!!!!

Get rid of Taylor and the fairy crew before it is too late!!

And by the way, did you know that it is illegal to edit the words or songs in a musical? When you contract to do a production, you sign an agreement that you WILL NOT change a word , line or a lyric in the show. And if you find it necessary to make these changes so as not to offend the public, well- maybe you should choose your material better.

And what does 'Whorehouse' have to do with the Literary Celebration? Where does it say that this year's event is -
"Whorehouses in the Deep South: then and now", or perhaps I missed Eudora "the osteoporosis with the mostest" Welty's book dealing with whorehouses.

This should be interesting.

The show IS OFFENSIVE if you have any moral convictions at all. How can you glorify a cathouse? And the beginning of the show is a monologue dealing with the "attributes" of the brothel, and how the "women" used to check all the men for the "clap". This is accompanied by figures in shadow acting out lewd acts. Very offensive.

And we all knew that the parts of Miss Mona and Melvin had been promised to Ms Hyland and Mr Ford some time ago. Way to dig into that Towers money. Influence peddling, 'cause she ain't that good.

And come to think of it- the ads that came out for the try- outs for this show clearly stated "noone under 18 allowed" yet, the ubiquitous Dwight Williams is in it, and he is not 18. HMMMMM.

Of course, the biggest surprise is that Layne Taylor is not playing the part of Miss Mona.

Save your money- the cast is WEAK.

I'll tell ya something else good about NLT. The wall behind the box- office is adorned with dvd copies of musicals and plays that they have recorded and sell.

Did you know that the practice of video taping, audio- recording or perfoming excerpts from a play is STRICTLY FORBIDDEN. It is in every play contract. Why? Because every play and musical is a copyrighted item, and is the sole property of the leaser. YOU ARE FORBIDDEN TO RECORD THESE SHOWS, much less offer copies to the public for sale!! If you don't believe me, contact Samuel French, Music Theater International or Tams- Witmark. They are doing a HIGHLY ILLEGAL thing.

NLT routinely performs "benefit" shows without the consent of the leaser, also. In other words, they often do not pay all the royalties to the play company as they are supposed to do. CAN WE SAY ILLEGAL?

What a mess, all courtesy of Taylor and his cohorts.

The man who built the displays for I.P. was Lanus Hammack. A team of old I.P. workers led by Nancy Eidt worked on them and displayed them on Biglane street for a number of years. The man who refurbished a number of them a couple of years ago for the city was then- public- works director Ronnie Ivy. The man who did the research and recreation of the ones that are in Vidalia was Burnley Cook.
