Read where there are approximately 43,000 cities with zip codes. With 26 million dollars per city, that would add up to $1,118,000,000,000....... Why stop there, it's just our tax money.........

On City of Natchez has $26 million in needs

I agree with the Editorial. Even though the 700+plus billion dollar bailout is a bitter pill, let's put into perspective. There are roughly 300 million people in the USA, so that comes to about $2400 per person. Not quite as alarming as it sounds at first. Need to have a little faith in America. This is a global financial mess, but I would suspect that even with idiot politicians, the USA will handle it better than most.

Actually the electoral college gives the majority of states a voice. Otherwise, a few states would decide the election every 4 years and most all of the federal rules. The founding fathers were a pretty wise group of people.

The thing that hurts most all of the news media is the lack of a neutral position on issues. There was a time many years ago when the reporter took pride in the fact that readers couldn't define their personal political views by the articles they wrote. These days, it a rarity that you can't see the political leanings of the reporter within the first few sentences of any article and too often those views jump out in the title of the article. What happened to unbaised reporting? Small town newspapers typically survive because they are pretty much the "only newspaper" readily available for home delivery. Often, I find myself questioning the value of this expenditure.

Mr. Higgins has a very selective memory. He doesn’t seem to remember that well over 80% of the congress supported the reasons for going into Iraq. He seems to forget that Bill Clinton was a supporter of the war as were virtually all Democratic Party leaders. He seems to forget that congress controls the budget and that no budget could pass through congress for the last few decades without democratic support. He seems to forget that Barney Frank and Chris Dodd played key roles in the Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac mortgage debacle. He seems to forget that John McCain was one of the few who tried to raise a red flag on this problem years ago, but no democrat was interested in solving the potential mortgage crisis looming in the horizon which turned out to be the problem we have today. He seems to forget that at the time of 9/11, the Bush administration was actively trying to reduce our involvement in foreign problems. The terrorists probably had less reason to strike the United States then, than in any of the recent decades. He seems to forget that we haven’t had another terrorist strike in the United States since 9/11 and that going after the terrorists on foreign soils seems to have worked quite effectively. He seems to forget that terrorist leadership's stated goal is to destroy the United States. He seems to forget that the Military support John McCain by either 3 to 1 or 4 to 1, depending upon the different polls. Of course, he probably thinks that the Military shouldn’t have a voice in this issue as most democrats seem to believe. Mr. Higgins made many statements that simply aren’t factually correct. Do I agree with everything the Bush administration has done? No, but they have done a pretty darn good job of keeping the terrorists on the run.

There was a time when I thought the "radical right" tended to go overboard on some issues. Over the last few years, I've come to realize that the "radical right" doesn't even come close to the "radical left". What an angry group of people..................

Yeahuhuh.

You can't let it drop, can you. You just have to keep screaming your opinion that the United States is to blame for everything that is wrong in the world. I've tried to keep my arguments civil, but you like many radical liberals cannot express an opinion without screaming and trashing anyone who doesn't view the world as you do. Believe or not, I have a few liberal friends and while we don't agree on most things; we can do so in a civil manner. Even though I have my opinions that I believe strongly in, I don't discount the possibility that I can be wrong. You seem to be one of those radical people (and there are those in both the conservative and liberal groups) that believe no one could possibly be right unless they see the world as you do. This is the last time I'll check this blog, so write whatever you wish as the last word...............

I'm 61 and have watched friends die in war, so I have strong opinions about the waste of a soldier's life. But enough said. Let's just agree to disagree on most everything it seems.

yeahuhuh: At the time the IRAQ war started, over 90% of ALL the politicians were 100% behind the effort. The leaders of the democratic party strongly supported the war too seeing exactly the same intelligence that Bush did. Most of the people in IRAQ government believed they had WMDs. If we quit now, it is a surrender and the terrorists will have won that war. If we surrender, the soldiers who suffered and died in the war will have sacrificed in vain. Should never since a soldier into war unless you plan to win. Do you really believe the terrorists will like us better if we surrender in IRAQ. We would be proving Bin Laden's statement that America is just a Paper Tiger. Sometimes the world forgets that if it wasn't for America, most of the world wouldn't be free today.

yeahuhuh: That is the reason I said that elected officials tend to disappoint you. But if you believe that Pelosi, Obama, Reid and Biden will be more conservative, then I hope you are right; but there is no historical evidence to point to that. All of the evidence and their own words point in just the opposite direction. And if you believe that the current financial crisis is just a republican mess, then you are overlooking facts. Throughout history, when taxes on businesses go up; 2 things occur - jobs go down and consumer prices go up. Before we were part of a global economy, the companies in the US could ride out the slower times without making drastic cuts. These days, a slow economy forces companies to react quickly to cut costs and if they don't; their stock value drops dramatically. When that happens, everybody loses.
