Whew!

Published Tuesday, February 12, 2008

We just — practically seconds ago — sent Profile 2008 to the presses.

The annual special section will come out on Feb. 24 in the daily paper. But, because it is a 142 page magazine with a nice glossy cover, we have to send it off to Jackson to be bound. That means our work on it has to be done several weeks in advance to allow travel and binding time.

The presses will print half of it tonight and half of it tomorrow night. Then Thursday morning, someone from our circulation department will drive a U-Haul containing all the loose pages to Jackson.

The folks who bind it there will have a week.

Next Thursday we'll go pick up the completed product.

Friday night and Saturday morning our staff will insert the section into the C and D sections of the Sunday newspaper (which are always printed on Fridays).

And Sunday morning, it will be on your doorstep. Likely with a loud thud.

The section is our largest of the year, with more than 30 stories, 100 photos and hundreds of faces.

This year the theme is "About Face." That literally means, about you. We went out of our way to include as many of you in the section as we could.

For the most part, my work is done. Some others in the building have a large workload left though.

But soon enough, we'll get to sit back and let you all read.
