Covering Easter

Easter in Natchez means our staff gets ready to head out to the local egg hunts to find the perfect photo and get quotes from the cutest kids.
It also means we send out the newest reporter to witness just how bad society can be.
The biggest hunt in town has been at Duncan Park for the last several years. The folks that put it on do a good job gathering a giant collection of eggs and prizes, but what happens after the word "go" is always a bit scary for our staff.
Dozens upon dozens of people will come, most seemingly only there to win prizes. In the hunt for the smallest age children, parents are allowed to help out, and it can get ugly.
No doubt every year we see some mother dragging her toddler by the arm making a beeline for an egg.
For some, the hunt isn't about fun with their children, it's about getting "stuff."
And it's always an experience.
It's sad that an Easter egg hunt is such a telling look at society.
Maybe this year will be different.

Easter eggs, federal funds, it's all the same.
When my child was little, my father in law was a preacher at a little country church in Jena La. They made the Easter Egg Hunt a HUGE deal, and no adults got involved, the small group of older kids helped the smaller kids, it was so sweet.
We participated from 1985 till he retired in the 90's, good, wholesome days!
An Easter Bunny Conspiracy? I suppose it had to happen!
