Republicans for Hillary?
Published Monday, March 10, 2008
Interestingly, after years of not really counting much, at least nationally, Tuesday's primary races in Mississippi are actually receiving national attention.
I've heard from several voters who will ultimately vote for Sen. John McCain in November say they'll be voting for Sen. Hillary Clinton in the primary. That almost seems sacrilegious.
The Republicans, it seems, realize that Hillary is an underdog in Mississippi and by throwing their support behind her they may prolong the time period in which the Democrats have no clear candidate. And, Republicans also think McCain has a better shot at defeating Clinton than Sen. Barack Obama.
Do you think the plan will work?

McCain will win either way!! He'll stick to the issues and give us specifics and we have his LONG HISTORY as a productive Senator and Representative (not to mention his heroism to our country surviving being tortured for 5 years in Vietnam). While most of us have some little issue with one or two of his policies, at least he makes an effort and can compromise producing results.
Obama and Hillary both have been ineffective as Senators for their states, what would make you believe they would do any better as President???
What bills that make any difference have either one written and gotten passed. Hillary has hollered about healthcare for years and DONE NOTHING!! Energy police??--NOTHING!!
Obama has such little experience any logical thinking person would NEVER trust him as the leader of the Free World!! He has missed 40% of opportunities to vote in the three years as Illinois Senator, that is disrespectful to his constituents and a shameful performance in my opinion.
Who could ever have any respect for a woman that didn't have the guts to divorce a scoundrel like Bill Clinton!!!
Amen, Kroger, amen!...see still positive...LOL.
Being the state's underdog political party, we have used the "vote for the opposition's weaker candidate" in the past. It certainly can help on the local level when only 1 republican is running. On the election in question there is considerable debate about who is the weaker candidate, Obama or Hillary, in the final November election. Personally, I feel that McCain will have an easier time beating Obama than he would Hillary because the left-right gap will be much clearer and issues will have chance to rise above personalities.
And if by some chance that McCain were to lose, we could survive with Obama for 4 years. Concerning Hillary - I'm reminded of what Thomas Jefferson said about supporting a man with bad principles over someone that has no principles.......
The United States of America will become a 3rd World Country if Owhampy is the nominee for the DemocRATS and he wins! If we the Mexicanos stay in the U. S., I feel that we are sinking into a slow death! We have very little area left and we are getting to many people. I feel that McCain, even he is not conservative enough, he is better than nothing!
GrandDad:
Underdog party? We are in power...a republican governor who can get things done with the legislature that is... he couldn't do it if there weren't a bunch of "conservative" Democrats voting with him...we are Republican in everything, but name on a local and state level.
The only reason most of the white politicians run as democrats locally and state wide is because of the old perceived black block vote.
African-Americans, thank the lord, are waking up to the way they have been abused by the Democrats and in conjunction with the rise of the black middle class are starting to vote for themselves rather than their race.
The Democrats are the party of racism and government telling you what you can and cannot do, the Republican party is the party of self-interest and self-determination...hmmm, which is worse? Which is common sense?
McCain will win either way. Obama will be done in by his lack of experience when he goes up against McCain--and the Rezko affair. Obama's support from Rezko and the mansion that he bought raises questions of whether funds from Nadhmi Auchi, one of Britain’s wealthiest men, helped Mr. Obama buy his mock Georgian mansion in Chicago.
A company related to Mr. Auchi, who has a conviction for corruption in France, registered the loan to Mr. Obama's bagman Antoin "Tony" Rezko on May 23 2005. Mr. Auchi says the loan, through the Panamanian company Fintrade Services SA, was for $3.5 million. Three weeks later, Mr. Obama bought a house on the city's South Side while Mr. Rezko's wife bought the garden plot next door from the same seller on the same day, June 15.
Mr. Obama says he never used Mrs. Rezko's still-empty lot, which could only be accessed through his property. But he admits he paid his gardener to mow the lawn. Mrs. Rezko, whose husband was widely known to be under investigation at the time, went on to sell a 10-foot strip of her property to Mr. Obama seven months later so he could enjoy a bigger garden. Mr. Obama now admits his involvement in this land deal was a “boneheaded mistake”."

A duh? moment from a Chicago saavy politico...I don't think so...Obama may be new to national politics, but he is very experienced in corrupt Chicago and Illinois politics...few states, Louisiana and New Jersey come to mind, as being as shall we say game?
Clintons are self-destructive, both of them, of course McCain would fair better against them than against a contrived JFK/MLK/RFK resurrection...how do you fight a dream?...it's far easier politically to fight realities.
Uh...that should have been "fare"...LOL
sammohon, When the majority of local elections are determined in the democrat primaries, I'd say that makes us (Republicans) the underdogs. That's not meant as an insult to the party - It's only pointing out where we stand. I still see many elections where there is no Republican on the ballot at all. There is ALWAYS a Democrat running. And I can guarantee that the Republicans will lose every election in which they do not field a candidate.
But, times they are a changing. And for the better.
You're right as usual GD, that will change as the reasons I enumerated become more apparent to the shadow Republicans who run as Democrats just to beat the perceptions.
Once upon a time I thought I was a Republician, then I realized I was too poor to be one. Tax cuts don't trickle down to me any more than trickle down economics did. Been in a war and don't care for any more of that. I don't like Republicians telling me everything according to their interpretation of the bible. Not much freedom under Republician rule.
No matter who wins as President our Republic will still be facing
the following MAJOR concerns:
1.) Increasing devaluation (dare we say "destruction"?) of our currency.
2.) Oil prices approaching $200 per barrel with NO energy policy other than to import even more oil while ignoring alternative energy.
3.) Non-secure national borders ( looser than Madonna's thighs were back in the '80's. )
4.) Nuclear proliferation especially in the Middle East.
5.) A billion man standing army in China.
6.) Increasing health care costs as QUALITY continues to decline compared to other industrialized nations.
Not sure exactly what the answers are to the above mentioned problems, but NONE of the democ-RATS or republi-CONS running for President gives me reason to feel they will be adequately answered.
skippy
The solutions to these problems would scare you more than the problems themselves.
yes those are obvious concerns SKIPPY, Reaganomics may be our only salvation, time, trade, and man's natural will to live free will be the only answer. China is a sleeping giant for sure, yet they seem to be shifting toward capitalism and away from communism. The only way to re-value our dollar is quit printing it up and giving it away. Yes we need more oil and alternatives to oil. Let's get that fence up and deport the illegals that are here!! The only answer to healthcare costs are teach people how to be healthy, get PE back in school, and let doctors have control of their trade again. Let there be competition, let doctors run the hospitals and get all the administrators OUT!! We have to get back to the basics of supply & demand, open and fair competition at all levels- between the U. S. and other countries; between companies within and without the U. S. If insurance and gov't were out of healthcare people would choose the doctors and facilities that gave good care at reasonable price and things would change.
SAM - I have been observing this phenomena of Natchez democats also. The old southern democrat philosophies such as Joe Lieberman seem to be their shared value system. Watts and Lazarus seem to have conservative views yet claim to be Democrats. The New Democrat Party is not the same anymore and certainly has shifted far to the left and it's time for our locals to realize this and align themselves with other conservatives and change parties. I am proud however to have the one Republican serve me as Alderman- Bob Pollard who has done a good job I think.
I am also very proud of our Governor Barbour, who may be McCain's choice of VP!!! Who knows?
OLDGRANDDAD has some true wisdom, thanks for sharing your thoughts.
Beammeup- thank you for your service, and I think I understand your cynicism.
I live in Bob Pollard's ward and will vote for him since I think he has done a fine job as well. I don't know Gwen Ball or anything about her record or views so I can't comment. As for Johnny Waycaster, I wouldn't vote for him to be sanitation engineer. I am likewise very impressed with Haley Barbour and he would be a great choice for VP.
Local politicos will not swap parties unless the local black population begins to follow the national trend by voting in their own best interests instead of as a block taken for granted by the Dems...THEN you'll see the conservative "Democrats" switch.
Beammeupscotty: I too repect, admire and appreciate your service, however, if you think you're poor now let the Democrats tax you more and add to the entitlements that FDR and LBJ created. At least the Republicans are trying to cut taxes and spending.
If you don't like war let the Democrats lead us again into another major conflict such as WWI, WWII and Vietnam...the first Gulf War and the current engagement in Iraq would be considered mere skirmishes in those wars.
If you don't like to be told who, what, when and where to do anything, particularly when it deals with religion, let the Democrats continue to legislate and regulate and appoint "liberal" judges. Soon there won't be any religion allowed, mandatory secular atheism is the goal, how's that for lack of freedom?
The Dems think you are too stupid to spend your own money the way you see fit or to do anything else without government restriction. If you want to micromanaged, vote Democrat...if you want to be free, vote Republican.
Sammohon - great comebacks. I need to remember those when some democrat starts up with me! Thanks.
amen Sam, you put that so well, about being micromanaged and all- I just don't see how anyone would want our country to continue toward socialism, lack of national defense, ignorance of our enemies, more gov't controls, etc. Like beammeup - his tax "refunds" he complains about, of course they are not enough to soothe his pains and troubles. The democrats have him fooled and wanting more from them, why can't he see that? He needs to cut the cord and step out and be a free American but is held back by some fear??????
beammeup- maybe if we talk more on this blog, or some other blogs we can help you figure out some way out of the confusion and fog you are caught up in. I'm praying for you brother, a soldier that has served our country, I want you to be a success at something and live a good life, you deserve it. Ttrust me, if can happen for you, just have faith and shake off your blues.
yep I'll vote for Pollard too, anytime I call him to talk about something, usually complain, LOL, he will listen and talk with me about it, and I like his probusiness attitude.
PLUS - he has the guts to stand up and be a REPUBLICAN!!
Twist on a theme. Here is a Democrat that is voting for a Republican. Unfortunately I just can't wrap my arms around either Democrat candidate.
Skippy's points fascinate me--and I don't have any answers, either:
1.) Increasing devaluation (dare we say "destruction"?) of our currency. DY: We no longer produce much of anything in this country, outside of agriculture. Yes, I know we still have some factories, etc., but our economy is about 2/3 consumer-generated. We like to buy stuff, but we don't want to pay much for it, so we mostly buy stuff manufactured in third-world countries (what are "second world" countries, by the way, or "first world"? I've never heard those terms, but if there is a third, there must be a first and second). I don't know much about economics, but think that countries that can "produce stuff" will be perceived as stronger than countries full of parasites.
2.) Oil prices approaching $200 per barrel with NO energy policy other than to import even more oil while ignoring alternative energy. DY: Economists didn't see oil prices as a problem until just lately. Economists clearly are stupid. Yes, this is a problem, probably an insurmountable one. We LIVE on fossil fuels. Alternative energy is the ultimate answer, of course, but how do you exchange the 600 million cars in 300 million Americans' driveways to alternative energy vehicles in anything less than a lifetime or two? Yeah, we're going to be hurting for a while on this one.
3.) Non-secure national borders ( looser than Madonna's thighs were back in the '80's. ) DY: So what? The Canadians don't show any signs of wanting to invade, and the Mexicans are just taking back what was once theirs. Seriously, I wish our porous national borders would let a few people OUT. Those coming in are NOT doing it so as to get EBT cards (or whatever those plastic food-stamp things are called)--mostly they want to work and make lives for themselves, that "American way" thing.
4.) Nuclear proliferation especially in the Middle East. DY: That cat is out of that bag. Short of nuking the lot of them, I don't know what we can do about it.
5.) A billion man standing army in China. DY: Who cares? Do we plan to invade China? MacArthur is dead, and Dubya/Shrub will soon be out of office. What difference does China's army make to us? They've been invading US for a long time, and we've survived, even enjoyed the process (I like Chinese food once in a while).
6.) Increasing health care costs as QUALITY continues to decline compared to other industrialized nations. DY: We all die, sooner or later. Get over it. Doctors, nurses, administrators, the whole lot of them need to get over the notion that they "save" lives--they only prolong them, sometimes, and usually by impoverishing all of the rest of us.
Answer to all? "Live fast, die young, and leave a good-looking corpse."
I've been trying that for years dangyankee, doesn't seem to work...I keep getting slower, older and looking like a better corpse...LOL
MMMMMM I wonder?? When push comes to shove and its time to cast your vote...And your choise is Hillery or Obama vs McCain.....I believe the people will fall back on old habits...and vote against a woman or a black, espically in the deep south.....And that may be just enough to elect McCain.....
Operation: Chaos, working like a charm.
I hope and pray that you are right Sandyman 7!
