While working at the Natchez High stadium Saturday, two JROTC students uncovered a great opportunity to do a good deed. The students found a class-ring, belonging to a fellow student, while taking part in the Junior ROTC’s regular post-game stadium cleanup.

&uot;I knew the person would want it back,&uot; said Natchez High senior T. Edward Pullins.&uot;To me personally, there are not enough good Samaritans around.&uot;

So Pullins and Natchez High junior Phillip Cook immediately began tracking down Jamie Sims, whose name was engraved on the inside of the Natchez Middle School ring. Pullins returned the ring to Sims Wednesday morning.

Sims, a Natchez High senior, said she lost the ring her freshman year, but could not remember exactly when. &uot;I though I’d never see it again,&uot;&160;she said.

Pullins and Cook attribute their actions, in part, to values they learned from their JROTC commanders.

&uot;We can not lie, cheat or steal – keeping the ring would be lying or stealing,&uot; Pullins said.

The students said rumors of gangs and fights are often exaggerated at the high school and they wish the community had a better perception of the campus.

&uot;I want (the public) to know it is actually a safe place,&uot;&160;Sims said. &uot;The bad gets the publicity where the good should.&uot;

They hope events like this send a more positive message. &uot;This school may have a couple problems but this school is a great school,&uot; Cook said.
