A 20-year-old man was behind bars Sunday for allegedly raping a 12-year-old girl in Adams County.

Maceo Mazique of 19 Dorsey Lane has been charged with rape and was being held without bond at the Adams County Sheriff’s Department.

&uot;The investigation is still ongoing,&uot;&160;said Investigator Andy Yates of the Adams County Sheriff’s Department. &uot;(We) can’t get into a whole lot of the details.&uot;

Because of the type of crime and the age of the victim, Yates said he could not comment on the location of the alleged incident, except to say it took place in the county during daylight-hours.

&uot;It’s a real particular situation when you talk about minors like this,&uot; Yates said.

Investigators believe that Sunday’s alleged incident was the first time the suspect had raped the girl.

Yates said he also could not comment on whether weapons were used during the attack or the victim’s relationship with Mazique.

Medical results on the victim are pending, Yates said.

&uot;She has been examined and treated by medical staff,&uot; he said.

She was then released to her parents with no other physical injuries, Yates said. Though there were no witnesses to the alleged incident, investigators interviewed several people about the incident on Sunday, he said.

Mazique should be arraigned in Adams County Justice Court the early this week. No more arrests are expected, Yates said.

Deputies also served a warrant on Mazique for the Natchez Police on a charge of sexual battery. The incident that involved an 18-year old woman and happened on Sept. 5.
