Museum specialist Kathleen McClain Jenkins sets up a ceramic reproduction of Mary Elizabeth McMurran’s wedding cake Monday afternoon in the drawing room Melrose at the Natchez National Historical Park. McMurran married Farar B. Conner at Melrose on Jan. 24, 1856. Volunteers from the Bayou Bend decorative arts museum in Houston, Texas, created the decorations last year based on written descriptions by Rosalie and Louisa Quitman. The decorations are on loan to Melrose through Spring Pilgrimage. &uot;We would never have the time to do something like this on our own,&uot; Jenkins said of the volunteers’ effort.
