Adams County supervisors are preparing specifications and appraisals to sell the swimming pool at Thompson School.

Supervisor Thomas &uot;Boo&uot; Campbell brought the proposal to the board Monday. He said a group of businessmen — who wish to remain anonymous at this point — approached him twice about acquiring the pool. &uot;They talked to me earlier last year and have just approached me again,&uot; Campbell said.

The investors plan to open the pool to the general public at a fee to recoup expenses to upgrade and maintain the deteriorated pool.

Board attorney Marion Smith was authorized Monday to research a specific description of what the county will sell of the Thompson School property and for what price. Although there has been much discussion about the disposition of Thompson School as a whole, but this will mark the first occasion when the county has been asked to consider cutting off a piece of that property for sale, Smith said. &uot;I don’t know yet how feasible that will be,&uot; he said. &uot;It may be needed to the rest of the tract.&uot;

Smith hasn’t met with the group interested in the swimming pool, but said there could be many obstacles to the purchase.

&uot;How much land they believe they need with the pool may differ from the amount of land the county is willing to sell,&uot; Smith said.

While Campbell raised the issue of selling the swimming pool, he said he is opposed to selling or giving away the remainder of the Thompson School property despite the mounting expense of maintenance. &uot;I’m optimistic about the school,&uot; Campbell said. &uot;I think it’s going to be OK.&uot;

A graduate of Thompson School, Campbell said other graduates host regular reunions and have the ability to donate time to refurbish it. Campbell said a local boxing league and children from the Thompson School neighborhood have been using the school on a daily basis.
