With a spot in the state tournament clinched, Trinity Episcopal’s boys and girls basketball teams now look to capture the South A State Tournament titles at Glenbrook School in Minden, La.

Trinity’s boys meet Glenbrook at 7:30 p.m. today, while the Lady Saints face Riverdale Academy at 2:30 p.m. today.

Both games will be broadcast on WNAT 1450-AM.

Trinity’s boys (23-5) opened defense of their South A State championship with a 68-54 win over Mount Olive Tuesday.

&uot;That was a totally different team than what we’ve played all year,&uot; said Trinity coach David King. &uot;We haven’t played many man-to-man defenses and they played extremely good. I was extremely proud of our intensity.&uot;

Glenbrook is led by 6-foot-8 center Marshall Harper, who scored 35 points, had 18 boards and 10 blocked shots.

&uot;He’s a dominant player,&uot;&160;King said. &uot;It will be the same old story, tiny team taking on bigger team. We’ll have to use our speed to get up and down the court. We can’t let him set up inside. We may have to go with our triangle-and-two defense.&uot;

Trinty’s girls (22-7) defeated Glenbrook 64-41 Tuesday. The Lady Saints are the No. 2 seed out of District 6, falling to Tensas Academy in the district finals at Trinity last Saturday.

Tensas meets Mount Olive at 1 p.m. in the other semifinal matchup.

Riverdale, seeded No. 1 in District 5, defeated Huntington 78-30 in its first round game Tuesday.

&uot;From the reports I’ve gotten they are legitimate No. 1,&uot; said Trinity girls coach Melanie Hall. &uot;Penny (Huntington coach Moak) said they are athletic and can do everything. They play man-to-man, zone and press. And they are good at it.&uot;

Hall said Riverdale has two all-star performers on their team.

&uot;But when you get to this level, you have to play well because everybody is good,&uot; Hall said. &uot;Nobody got there by accident. &uot;

Hall said the fact that the Lady Saints have clinched a spot in the state tournament means a lot.

&uot;There’s no pressure,&uot;&160;she said. &uot;We have nothing to lose and everything to gain.&uot;

The girls consolation is scheduled for Saturday at 1 p.m., followed by the girls finals at 2:30 p.m.

The boys consolation contest will tip off at 6 p.m., followed by the boys championship game at 7:30 p.m.

The MPSA Class A finals will be held at Delta Academy in Clarksdale next week.
