Cathedral boys jam Bogue Chitto

At Cathedral’s &uot;Jam the Gym&uot; Friday night, the varsity boys and girls split a pair of games with Bogue Chitto.

In the varsity girls game, Randi Moak led a balanced scoring attack with 14 points as the Lady Bobcats cruised to a 67-37 win over the Lady Green Wave.

Moak also had seven rebounds, two steals and hit two three-pointers.

Three players, including one of their starters, Kate Prescott, were unable to play in the game.

The Lady Bobcats (26-3) jumped out to a 14-0 lead before the Lady Green Wave scored the last six points of the first quarter.

It wasn’t any better for Cathedral in the second quarter as Bogue Chitto continued to dominate with its press.

The Lady Bobcats outscored the Lady Green Wave 14-6 in the second quarter to take a 28-12 halftime lead.

Randi Moak and her sister Jodi Moak continued to frustrate the Lady Green Wave in the second half offensively and defensively.

Jodi Moak finished with 11 points, five rebounds, four steals and also hit two threes. Vanessa Andrews also had 11 points along with four rebounds and three steals.

The Lady Bobcats outscored the Lady Green Wave 39-25 in the second half.

Mary Alwood led the Lady Green Wave with 10 points while Hester Brown and Mary Cooley each had six points.

In the varsity boys game, the Green Wave held off a furious fourth-quarter rally to defeat the Bobcats 40-33.

The Green Wave won despite having no players scoring in double figures. Bart Lane led Cathedral (10-13) with eight points and nine rebounds.

&uot;We did a good job defensively and rebounding,&uot; said Green Wave head coach Terry Moffett. &uot;That’s what it takes to win games. I was real proud of my seniors, especially being their last game here.&uot;

The Bobcats took six three-pointers in the fourth quarter to try to tie the score, but came up empty all six times.

Lanoxne Scott and Chris Martin each had seven points for Cathedral. Marc Howard led Bogue Chitto with 12 points.

The Green Wave will play St. Andrews Tuesday at 8:30 p.m. and the Lady Green Wave will play Wesson Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the first round of the district tournament at St. Andrews.
