Cathedral High School’s fine arts department is prepared to delight the Miss-Lou with &uot;Bye Bye Birdie.&uot;

The show has an exceptionally large cast with scores of speaking parts, both large and small. The play concerns the romance of a composer-publisher-agent and his secretary plus the drafting of his rock’n roll star into the Army. In a gigantic publicity stunt they all descend on a small Ohio town and proceed to turn it upside down. The results are hilarious and musically rewarding.

The show features in its large cast junior Deighton Zerby as Conrad Birdie, the rock’n roll singer about to leave for the Army. Cast as the recipient of his &uot;One Last Kiss&uot; is sophomore Caroline Shull as Kim Macafee, a typical teenager from Sweet Apple, Ohio.

The role of the singer’s manager, Albert Peterson, is played by junior Drew Flach. The very demanding role of Rosie, Mr. Peterson’s girl Friday, is portrayed by a theatre veteran, senior Heather Christian.

Other supporting roles are the parents of Kim Macafee, Mr. Macafee, played by sophomore Tucker Cupit, as Mrs. Macafee, freshman Selah Havard and their son Randolph played by seventh-grader Cory Brock.

The cast is rounded out with screaming teenagers, reporters, the mayor and his wife — played by Cathedral instructors Mike Roboski and Leigh Anderson — parents in Sweet Apple, Ohio, and many other members of the Ohio community.

&uot;Bye Bye Birdie&uot; performances will be presented on Feb. 17, 18 and 19, with curtain time at 7:30 p.m. in the school cafeteria. For information, or to make reservations and arrangements for ticket pickup call the high school office at 442-2531.
