Jeff. Co. returns to play

Jefferson County girls basketball coach Flora McKnight hasn’t talked much about her Lady Tigers’ 45-42 loss to Forest in South State 3A finals last week.

&uot;We looked at the tapes, discussed our mistakes and went on,&uot; McKnight said.

Jefferson County meets Forest today at 6:30 p.m. in the Class 3A state semifinals in the Mississippi Coliseum.

The Lady Tigers advanced to the state semifinals last year before falling to Stone County.

&uot;We just have to stay focused,&uot; McKnight said. &uot;We’ve been dreaming of this all year and we don’t want to kill that dream.&uot;

The Lady Tigers defeated Independence High 59-48 in the Class 3A state quarterfinals at the Mississippi Coliseum.

After losing to Forest, Jefferson County defeated Amite County to advance to the state tournament.

&uot;We led that contest for most of the game,&uot; McKnight said. &uot;But we just started making mistakes.&uot;

Indpendence led the Lady Tigers 29-24 at halftime.

&uot;We can’t let Forest jump on us like that,&uot; McKnight said.

The championship game will be held March 9 at 6:30 p.m.

Top-rated Yazoo Co. meets New Albany Saturday at 1 p.m. in the other semfinal contest.
