Trinity School STAR student Sarah Kirby has a gift for blending school work with extracurricular activities.
&uot;Sarah is a meticulous student. (She’s) very attentive to detail,&uot; said Trinity STAR teacher Gwen Young. &uot;She’s truly what they call a scholar-athlete.&uot;
Kirby is a senior at Trinity Episcopal Day School where she is a cheerleader and a member of the basketball and softball teams.
She is ranked first in her class.
Her high ACT scores and GPA earned her the honor of being named Trinity’s STAR student this year.
Kirby said she was shocked to receive the award. &uot;I didn’t even expect to get it,&uot;&160;she said.
Kirby attributes the honor to hard work. &uot;I’ve just tried to keep my grade up the whole time I’ve been in high school and it’s paid off,&uot; she said.
Each year’s STAR student names a STAR teacher that has been instrumental in their education.
&uot;I’ve had a lot of great teachers,&uot; Kirby said. &uot;It was a hard choice.&uot;
Kirby selected her English teacher, Gwen Young. This year, Kirby is taking three of Young’s classes.
&uot;She’s a great teacher and she’s made me appreciate English,&uot; Kirby said. &uot;She’s just a great friend.&uot;
Kirby is the daughter of Rick and Barbara Kirby.
She will attend University of Southern Mississippi in the fall and is considering a career in pharmacy.
