Natchez High school is adding a girls soccer team to its program, while Natchez Middle School will field another football team.
Both squads will compete in the 2000-2001 school season.
Natchez added a soccer team this school year, with several girls competing on the team.
&uot;This gives more kids a chance to play and the public has shown a lot of interest,&uot; said Natchez High Athletic Director Gill Morris.
Bill Dillon coaches the current soccer team, but Morris said a new coach will be named for the girls team and will have to be approved by the school board.
The new middle school football team will have a 7th grade and an 8th grade team and the coaching staff will also be named at a later date.
&uot;We know it will work because that’s the way it was at Thompson under that junior high system,&uot; Morris said. &uot;We’ll have to renovate the dressing room area.&uot;
Morris said team name and colors will be decided at a further date.
The Nathez Middle School competes in a division with area schools, while the soccer team is a member of Division 6-5A.
