Vidalia blanks DeRidder

Vidalia High bounced back from a tough 3-2 loss to Neville Friday to defeat DeRidder 9-0 Saturday at the Ruston Tournament.

&uot;That was one of the best all-around games we’ve played in several years,&uot; said Vidalia coach Johnny Lee Hoffpauir. &uot;We had great defense, especially in the outfield, we were sharp mentally, we had great pitching, our base running was good and we got some key hits.&uot;

Kevin Laird went the whole way on the mound, allowing five hits, striking out four and walking one.

&uot;Kevin was in command of his pitches,&uot; Hoffpauir said.

Vidalia scored one run in the first and second innings and added three in the sixth and four in the seventh.

Bryan Bennett was 2-for-4 for Vidalia with three RBI. Laird had two hits in four at-bats and Matt Dillon doubled.

Vidalia, 11-5, plays Ruston at noon today. The game was originally scheduled for 2 p.m., but was moved up.

&uot;We played good ball against against Neville, but just couldn’t come up with the big hit,&uot; Hoffpauir said.

Vidalia had the bases loaded in the seventh inning against the Class 5A Tigers, but failed to score a run to at least tie the game.

Trinity romps PCS

Trinity Episcopal High scored 18 runs in the first inning before the contest was called at the Brookhaven Tournament Saturday.

Elliot Meng was on the mound for Trinity, while McAliser pitched for Presbyterian Christian.

Walt Ketchings had two singles in three at-bats for Trinity. Ryan Rachal doubled and singled, while Hunter Dale and William McGehee both doubled.

Trinity hosts Porter’s&160;Chapel Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.

That contest was moved up from Thursday because of a track meet at ACCS.

Trinity’s game at Franklin Saturday has been postponed.

St. Mary’s nips Monterey

St. Mary’s defeated Monterey 4-3 in the Jena Tournament Saturday.

Phillip Bryan singled twice for the Wolves, while Beau Barfoot doubled.

Monterey scored all three of its runs in the second inning.

Lance Baudrick picked up the win, while Bryan was the losing pitcher

The Wolves host Harrisonburg Monday.
