The T.M. Jennings Little League has acquired its own field of dreams.

The league leased 8.42 acres of land behind the Natchez Middle School from Adams County to construct at least two new ballfields.

Currently, the league plays its games at two ball parks behind Joe Frazier Elementary.

The field is part of Anchorage Plantation lying on the westerly side of the Yazoo and Mississippi Valley Railroad right-of-way, located near Cambridge Heights.

&uot;The best possibility is that we will practice there this year and hopefully next year we can have it ready for league play,&uot; said T.M. Jenning vice-president and player-agent Freddie Woods.

The lease from the county is a 20-year term with an annual rental of $1 beginning April 1.

The contract calls for at least two new ball fields meeting specifications of regular baseball fields as prescribed by public high schools in the State of Mississippi. Those fields must be built within 12 months from the execution and delivery of the lease.

The maintenance of the fields must be suitable for the safe use by the general public and the field must be available to all citizens of Adams County at reasonable hours.

&uot;It’s going to mean more practice facilities and down the road more fields,&uot; Woods said. &uot;It will be an overall better thing for the kids. We’ll have more room and better facilities.&uot;

Woods said 350 youngsters ages 5-16 participated in T.M. Jennings ball last year.

&uot;We try to make it more than just teaching the fundamentals of baseball,&uot;&160;he said. &uot;We try to get young men and ladies who are positive role models show then good morals and values.&uot;

We make it a social thing for the whole family.&uot;
