The Trinity Lady Saints softball team broke a tie with eight runs in the fourth inning on their way to a 12-4 win over the Pine Hills Lady Wildcats Thursday at the Natchez Softball Complex.

Amber Huff pitched a complete game to get the win for Trinity, giving up four runs and six hits, striking out four and walking one.

The top of the first inning did not get off to a good start for Huff and her teammates as Pine Hills jumped out to a 3-0 lead.

Natalie Thurman and Dee Clayton had back-to-back singles and scored on two straight errors.

Tamatha Barnett advanced to third on the two errors and scored on another error.

&uot;We made some errors in the first inning, but our defense got better,&uot; said Trinity softball coach Lacy Johnson.

Trinity appeared on its way to a good start in the bottom of the first after shortstop Sarah Kirby tripled and scored on a JessicaTannehill sacrifice fly.

After Kirby’s tripled and Haley Hinton walked but both runners were left stranded.

However, the Lady Saints tied the game in the bottom of the third inning.

Kirby walked and later scored on an error.

Tannehill walked and scored on a Sara Greer single.

Trinity took the lead for good in the bottom of the fourth.

Ashley Kingsafer started the rally with a single and later scored on a Kirby walk.

Krista Mophett then reached first on an error. Lauren Harper and Kirby walked to load the bases.

Hinton then got the biggest hit of the game with an inside-the-park grand slam home run to right field.

Tannehill tripled and scored on a Greer single.

Huff kept the rally going by walking and scoring on a Leslie Petty single.

Greer scored on a fielder’s choice by Kingsafer to give Trinity an 11-3 lead.

&uot;Our bats finally came around,&uot; Johnson said.

Pine Hills scored a run in the top of the fifth as Thurman tripled and scored on a Clayton sacrifice fly.

Trinity scored the last run of the game in the bottom of the fifth when Harper walked and later scored on a Tannehill fielder’s choice.

Kirby went 2-for-2 and walked twice, Hinton was 2-for-3 and Greer was 2-for-4 for Trinity.

Thurman and Shiloh Forman each went 2-for-3 with a double for Pine Hills.

Clayton suffered the loss for Pine Hills, giving up 12 runs on nine hits, striking out one and walking eight in six innings.

Trinity (2-0, 2-0 MPSA&160;District 6A) plays at Presbyterian Christian Friday at 3 p.m.

In the junior varsity game, Trinity defeated Pine Hills 12-9.
