Vidalia takes sole possession of first in 3-2A

CROWVILLE, La. — Vidalia High grabbed sole possession first place in District 3-2A action Saturday with a 5-3 win over Crowville. Both teams entered the contest with 4-0 district records.

The game at Crowville had been rained out twice before being made up Saturday.

Rod Donald (3-4) struck out seven and walked four in the win while Jimmy Raley took the loss for Crowville. He had five strikeouts and one walk.

In the sixth inning, the Vikings loaded the bases with no outs but Sam Morse lined into a double play. But Adam Probst came through with a two-RBI single to give Vidalia the lead for good and Jarrett Hoffpauir then scored on a passed ball.

&uot;By no means does this put us in the driver’s seat,&uot; Vidalia coach Johnny Lee Hoffpauir said. &uot;It’s good to get the win especially at their place but we can’t let our guard down.&uot;

Vidalia plays at Block Monday in a district game and hosts Crowville next Thursday to end its regular season.

Jarrett Hoffpauir went 3-for-4 to lead the Viking hitting attack.

McComb blanks Natchez

Damien Givens (6-1) and MdComb shut out down the Natchez baseball team, 10-0.

Nolan Coward (2-4) took the loss for the Bulldogs.

Doug Hollowell went 3-for-3 with a double while John Jay was 2-for-3 to pace the McComb hitting attack.

&uot;We just didn’t play well,&uot; Bulldog coach Michael Lindsey said. &uot;The Givens kid threw well. We didn’t put the ball in play.&uot;

Natchez know gets ready for playoff action as the Bulldogs will face Gulfport in a Class 5A first round playoff best of three series.

Natchez finished second in Division 6-5A to Forest Hill.

Adams County Christian School gets back into action Tuesday in a makeup doubleheader at Madison-Ridgeland Academy.

The South AAAA doubleheader starts at 4 p.m.

ACCS’ game at Huntington Tuesday has been cancelled.

Trinity begins sub-district playoff action Tuesday at Franklin in a best of three series.
