Cathedral nets win in district

Cathedral High’s tennis team tuned up for its district tournament by defeating Loyd Star 4-1 in district action Monday afternoon at the Duncan Park tennis courts.

Monday’s District 6-2A match was the last district match of the regular season.

&uot;We’re doing okay,&uot; said Cathedral tennis coach Lynn Ogden. &uot;We’re ready for district.&uot;

In the boys singles match, Cathedral’s Bryson Ogden defeated Loyd Star’s Jeremy Vanover 6-1, 6-1.

&uot;I didn’t play that good,&uot; Ogden said. &uot;I just got the ball back.&uot;

The Green Wave’s Jennifer Blain had to play as a replacement for Erin Wentworth in the girls singles match and, lost to Katie McCraven 5-7, 3-6.

Tate Hobdy, a last-minute replacement for Ben Tillman, and Andrew Stubbs defeated Dee Smith and Josh Britt 6-1, 6-0 in the boys doubles match.

&uot;I was kind of surprised we won so easily,&uot; Hobdy said.

In the girls doubles match, Holly Sawardecker and Lauren Biglane defeated Cindy Moak and Darla Hollis 6-0, 6-1.

&uot;We didn’t do that great,&uot; said Biglane. &uot;Holly and I played really hard in the first set, but than we slacked off some in the second set.&uot;

Mary Alice Cooley and Chase Ogden defeated Jennifer Scroggs and Donnie Hollis 6-1, 6-1 in the mixed doubles match.

Cathedral (10-3) hosts Bogue Chitto in a non-district match today at 4 p.m. at Duncan Park.

Cathedral hosts the district tournament Wednesday.
