Chamber hosts forums for candidates

Voters will have the chance to hear from Natchez’s municipal candidates at an upcoming political forum and chamber of commerce luncheon.

Tuesday, the Natchez-Adams County Chamber of Commerce will sponsor a forum for aldermen and city clerk candidates at the Isle of Capri Hotel (formerly the Lady Luck Hotel).

The forum will be from 6 to 8 p.m.

On Friday, April 28, the chamber of commerce will sponsor &uot;Meet the Mayoral Candidates&uot; at its annual membership lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Ramada Inn Hilltop. Tickets for the program, which include lunch, are $12 in advance and $15 at the door. The chamber asks members to make reservations by calling 445-4611.

If anyone wants to attend the forum and not pay for lunch, the public is invited, said Angela Anderson of the chamber of commerce.

The primary election is May 2, with a runoff May 16. The general election is June 6.

Contested races on the Democratic primary ballot this year are:

— Mayor: Larry L. &uot;Butch&uot; Brown, John &uot;Pulleybone&uot; Pullen and F.L. &uot;Hank&uot;&160;Smith.

— City clerk: Billy Geoghegan, Donnie Holloway, Peter Rinaldi and Fredericka Cain Todd.

— Alderman, Ward 1: Joyce Arceneaux and Gail Jenkins Healy.

— Alderman, Ward 2: James &uot;Ricky&uot; Gray and George &uot;Shake&uot; Harden.

— Alderman, Ward 4: Joe Eidt III and Theodore &uot;Bubber&uot; West. (Bettye Bell, whose name was printed on sample ballots, has decided to withdraw from the race.)

— Alderman, Ward 5: Art Fesmire and David Massey.

On the June 6 general election ballot will be the winner of the Democratic primary elections and:

— Mayor: Robert F. Costa and Phillip &uot;Bucket&uot; West.

— City clerk: JoeAnne Hicks.
