The baseball contest Sunday may not have had a playoff position riding on the outcome as it has in the past.

But Huntington junior pitcher Barrett Kiser found a lot of satisfaction out of the Hounds’ 4-0 season-ending win over Trinity Monday.

&uot;It was like our World Series,&uot; Kiser said. &uot;We all wanted the seniors to go out on a good note.&uot;

Huntington finished second to Franklin in the sub-district, so Sunday’s game completed the Hounds’ season at 11-8.

Trinity won its sub-district this year and began its playoff series at Franklin Monday.

Trinity and Huntington competed in the same district last year.

Trinity defeated Huntington in the teams’ first meeting his year at Trinity.

&uot;We were hoping they wouldn’t sweep us,&uot; Kiser said.

And the right-hander was a good reason they didn’t, limiting the Saints to two hits in the 4-0 win.

Kiser struck out seven and walked two.

&uot;I&160;kind of struggled a little bit,&uot;&160;he said. &uot;I had to use my curve ball because I couldn’t throw my fastball for a strike. But I was able to keep them off balance.&uot;

Kiser, who batted .326, finished the season at 3-3 on the mound.

&uot;I think all of our pitchers did a good job,&uot; Kiser said.

The win was the seventh straight for the Hounds, who lost both of their games to Franklin, the first being Huntington’s home opener.

&uot;I think we still had a pretty good year,&uot;&160;Kiser said. &uot;It seems like it just got started and it’s over already. I think we could have made the playoffs and be undefeated if we started playing now. I hate it for the seniors.&uot;

Huntington had three seniors on its roster, two who started.

&uot;It just took some time for us to get experience this year,&uot; Kiser said. &uot;We had several positions where we had to move people around.&uot;

Kiser said the Hounds should make it back to the playoffs next year, after missing out for the second straight year.

&uot;My goal for next year is to get to the playoffs, and I think we can do it,&uot;&160;he said. &uot;We have to get off to a better start. We weren’t able to play enough games before we started our district.&uot;
