After getting off to a slow start offensively, Adams County Christian’s varsity softball team pounded out 14 hits and cruised to a 14-2 win over Brookhaven Academy Tuesday at the Lady Rebels softball field.
The game was called in the bottom of the fifth inning due to the 10-run rule.
Tuesday’s game was the final regular season game for three Lady Rebels seniors – left-center fielder Neely Ward, shortstop Laurie Davis and first baseman Shannon Givens.
&uot;The seniors have been a big part of our team,&uot; said ACCS softball coach Bruce Pickle. &uot;They’ve been playing softball since the eighth grade.&uot;
And the three seniors would not disappoint, going a combined 5-for-8 with seven runs batted in.
Ward went 2-for-3 with a triple and three RBIs. Davis was 1-for-3 with an RBI and also committed two errors, but neither of them hurt the team. Givens went 2-for-2 with a double and three RBIs.
Lindsey Holmes suffered the loss for BA, giving up 14 runs and 14 hits.
However, the Lady Cougars only got two hits off ACCS pitcher Charmaine Reagan in the first three innings.
Reagan pitched five innings for the win, giving up only five hits and striking out one.
The Lady Rebels (9-2) finally got their bats going, scoring six runs in the bottom of the third.
Reagan led off with a single, followed by a double by Brandy Case. Amy Mardis then singled to bring in Reagan.
Givens then doubled to score Case and Mardis. Givens later scored on a Ward single.
After Candace Duplechin reached first on a BA error, pinch runner Megan Marchbanks came in and later scored when April Boyd reached first on another BA error.
Ward scored on a Davis sacrifice fly.
&uot;After the first two innings, our bats woke up,&uot; Pickle said. &uot;We also played good defense.&uot;
The Lady Rebels scored four runs in the bottom of the fourth.
Givens hit an RBI single to bring in Reagan. Duplechin later brought in Mardis with a single. Ward then tripled to score Givens and Marchbanks.
Mardis finished 2-for-3 with three RBIs.
